M. Varvitsiotis: Greece does not forget the Greek minority

by

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of the visit of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, underlined that the Greek government is trying in every way to protect the interests of the Greek minority in Albania,

“Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the very important visit to the minority villages of Albania, makes a move of high symbolism but also of substance, refuting those who claimed that he gave in to Albanian pressure and showing that the motherland does not forget the Greek minority”, the deputy minister emphasized Miltiadis Varvitsiotis of Foreign Affairs.

In particular, Mr. Varvitsiotis underlined that the Greek government is trying in every way to protect the interests of the Greek minority in Albania, including through the EU enlargement process in the Western Balkans, which dictates in Tirana the respect of the Greek minority and the property rights, especially of the Heimarra area.

Regarding the referral of the EEZ drawing issue between Greece and Albania to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, the deputy minister noted that pressure is being exerted so that the process is not delayed any longer, stressing that it is an agreement that shows the way and the path through which they are resolved disputes concerning the determination of the EEZ.

Speaking about Turkey, Mr. Varvitsiotis emphasized that it is going through a period of great pre-election tension and retreat in the issues of the rule of law, as can be seen from the political prosecution with an unprecedented sentence against Ekrem Imamoglu without any basis.

He reiterated that Greece is making all moves to internationalize Turkish provocation, pointing out that the anti-Greek climate cultivated in the pre-election period in the neighbor makes any discussion difficult the next day.
