Revenues amounted to 17.114 billion euros in the specific period
70.4% increase showed the income from tourism in ten months of January – October compared to the corresponding period of 2021 and amounted to 17.114 billion euros, according to the Bank of Greece (BoG).
Compared to the period January-October 2019, in the corresponding period of 2022 travel receipts showed a decrease of 2.6%, as well as inbound travel traffic increased by 11.0%, while the average expenditure per trip increased by 10.1 %.
This development, according to the figures of the Central Bank, is due to the increase in collections from residents of the EU-27 countries by 49.0%, which amounted to 9.82 billion euros, as well as collections from residents of countries outside the EU-27 by 110.5%, which amounted to 6.927 billion euros.
In more detail, receipts from residents of the euro area countries amounted to 7.830 billion euros, increased by 46.0%, while receipts from residents of the EU-27 countries outside the euro area amounted to 1.995 billion euros, showing an increase by 61.9%.
In particular, receipts from Germany increased by 37.9% and amounted to 3,117.8 million euros, as well as those from France by 29.1% and amounted to 1,256.6 million euros. From the countries outside the EU-27, receipts from the United Kingdom showed an increase of 122.7%, which amounted to 3,128.3 million euros. Receipts from the US also increased by 86.4% to €1,057.3 million, while those from Russia fell by 65.0% to €34.5 million.
The increase in receipts reflects the increase in tourist traffic by 92%, with the result that the number of tourists who visited our country in this period exceeded 26.4 million, compared to 13.7 million in the corresponding period of 2021. The travel traffic from in the EU-27 countries amounted to 16.3 million travelers, showing an increase of 68.9% compared to the corresponding period in 2021, while travel traffic from countries outside the EU-27 increased by 147.0% and amounted to 10.1 million travelers. Travel traffic from euro area countries rose by 59.3% and that from EU-27 countries outside the euro area by 94.2%.
In particular, travel traffic from Germany increased by 47.1% and reached 4.2 million travelers, as well as from France by 49.9% and reached 1,711.0 million travelers. In relation to countries outside the EU 27, travel traffic from the United Kingdom increased by 194.4% to 4.3 million travelers and that from the USA by 167.5% to 975.7 thousand travelers. Finally, travel traffic from Russia decreased by 63.3% and amounted to 34.6 thousand travelers.
