“We do not recognize the British Museum’s ownership, jurisdiction, possession of the Sculptures,” the director of the Prime Minister’s Press Office told SKAI

Greece “does not recognize the ownership, jurisdiction, possession of the Parthenon Sculptures in the British Museum”, the director of the Prime Minister’s Press Office, Dimitris Tsiodras, told SKAI 100.3 today.

He emphasized that Greece is entering into a difficult discussion, which is done on this basis.

At the same time, he made it clear that the issues regarding borrowing do not arise from any Greek position.

He pointed out that the return of the Parthenon Sculptures has been a national goal of the government since the beginning of its mandate.

He explained that “we have come to have some trump cards now, like the UNESCO decision in 2021 that talks about a return and the conversion of public opinion in Brittany.”

“This is a national goal which is not easy to achieve, however the government is struggling in every way to achieve it” said Mr. Tsiodras, stating that the national goal is not connected to the elections.

He spoke of concern on the part of SYRIZA, stressing that what the majority of Greeks wish for, SYRIZA trembles.
