Nikos Dendias tour in West African countries – The program and the meetings

The Minister of Foreign Affairs will have meetings with the leaders of Ivory Coast, Ghana and Gabon

The foreign minister will tour three West African countries from January 11 to 13 Nikos Dendias.

In particular, the foreign minister will visit Ivory Coast (Abidjan, 11.01.2023), Ghana (Accra, 12.01.2023) and Gabon (Libreville, 13.01.2023).

As part of his visit to Ivory Coast, the first visit of a Greek Foreign Minister to the country, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to hold talks with his counterpart Kandia Camara. In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to meet officials of the Africa Development Bank.

On 12 January, during his second visit to Ghana (the first took place in November 2021), the Minister of Foreign Affairs will meet in Abidjan with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorktor Botchwey. During his stay in Ghana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will visit the Greek School of Agios Nikolaos, in the town of Tema, which is supported by donations from Greeks who do business in Ghana. In addition, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to visit the Interregional Maritime Security Institute (ISMI) in the port of Abidjan.

On Friday, January 13, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will make his second visit to Gabon (the first took place in November 2021). During his stay in Libreville, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will hold talks with his counterpart, Michael Moussa-Adamo. The Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to be received by the President of the country, Ali Bongo Ondimba. In addition, he will have a meeting with the Minister of the Environment, Lee James Taylor White, with the object, among other things, of promoting the 9th International Conference on the Oceans (“Our Ocean Conference 2024”) which will be hosted by our country. It is noted that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Gabon made a working visit to Athens last July.

During the tour of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, to the above three West African countries, the signing of Memorandums of Understanding on bilateral cooperation in various fields is planned.

The talks are expected to focus on further strengthening Greece’s cooperation with the respective states in a wide range of sectors, including economy, investment and culture.

In addition, the discussions are expected to cover Greece’s cooperation with the countries in question and in international organizations, to address common challenges, based on the commitment to International lawincluding the International Law of the Sea.

It should be noted that this is the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ sixth trip to Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as his fourth trip to West Africa, which demonstrates the importance the Greek government attaches to strengthening our country’s relations with this region.
