Hatzidakis for “his chaos”: Tsipras uses words to build up and down

by

The Minister of Labor commented on the SYRIZA proposal on the income and housing of young people

“Mr. Tsipras builds houses and houses with his words! I’m referring to the video released by SYRIZA, in which it expresses … its support for young people who want to own their own home, even linking it to the salary they receive at work. So, he promises them houses, houses and shelters, but only in words,” points out the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, in a message on his personal social media account.

As he notes, “we have seen many such attempts of mental identification with young people from Mr. Tsipras and SYRIZA. We have not seen substantial results!”

Particularly, Mr. Hatzidakis states the following in his post:

“Let’s look at things coldly and concretely: First, unemployment. Which number is bigger? The 17.5% that Mr. Tsipras handed over to New Democracy or the 11.4% that it is today? But even in 20-29 year old unemployment, which number is higher? The 26.1% it was in the summer of 2019 or the 21.5% it has fallen to now?

Second, salaries. Which number is bigger? The 650 euros that Mr. Tsipras delivered the minimum wage or the 713 euros that it is today? And, in fact, in a regime of successive international crises and, while a new, significant and fair increase in the minimum wage is imminent, which will further support the income of workers.

Third, reconciling young people’s professional and family life. Who introduced paternity leave? Who instituted the 2 month paid parental leave for both parents? Who brought more flexible schedules for working parents so they could see more of their children? Who extended maternity leave from 6 to 9 months in the private sector as well?

The answer to all these questions is the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis! Mr. Tsipras points the finger at a government that has done much more than his own.

Fourth, housing policy. It is true that the SYRIZA government had increased housing benefits. But only that. While the government of the New Democracy adopted in the last months a large – by Greek standards – social housing program, especially for young people. All these are not theories and promises. It is already a law since last December, a law which immediately starts to be implemented. The delivery of the first houses of the “Coverage” program that will cover our poorest fellow citizens, free of charge or at a very low rent, is expected to take place at the end of February-beginning of March. At the same time, for low-interest or interest-free housing loans for young people and young couples up to 39 years of age, the goal is, in March, to approve the first loans. In total, we are talking about a program of 1.75 billion euros, from which 137,000 young people will benefit.

This is the reality. Against the words of Mr. Tsipras, we respond with work. Against the videos, we oppose a social policy with results and, against populism and political theatrical performances, we have adopted a policy that reduces unemployment, increases wages and creates, not in words, but in practice, every day and better prospects for the young people and we will continue even after the elections, putting a lot of emphasis in our program on two main issues: Even higher salaries and an even bigger housing program, which will cover even more young couples”, underlines Mr. Hatzidakis.
