“Ghana is a country that expresses stability and commitment to International Law in West Africa,” said the Foreign Minister
On the issue of Libya and the reaction of the interim government to the court’s decision canceling the Turkish-Libyan memorandum, Nikos Dendias mentioned, in a journalist’s question after the end of his visit to Ghana.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that an interim government cannot comment on court decisions, adding characteristically: “And even a case judged by a Higher Court.”
Regarding Libya, a general position would be that an interim government cannot comment on decisions of the Court. This is at least the case in all advanced countries (statement to ERT after the end of my visit to #Ghana). pic.twitter.com/TxOtWhGDmv

In his statements from Ghana, Mr. Dendias emphasized:
“The day started in a touching way, the visit to the Greek school of Agios Nikolaos. Then I had the bilateral meeting with my counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana.
As you know, Ghana is a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2022 – 23. There were many issues that we discussed. The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the obligations of the Security Council was one of them.
Ghana, in general, is a natural partner of Greece. It is a country that has signed the Convention on the Law of the Sea, UNCLOS, is a member of the Group of Friends of UNCLOS. It is a country that expresses stability and commitment to International Law in West Africa. A country that believes in protecting the territorial integrity and independence of all states.
I also had the opportunity to promote Greek investments in Ghana. West Africa is a gateway to the fastest growing economy in the world, in a region that also has the highest population growth.”
Journalist: Mr. Minister, two days ago there was a decision by the Court of Tripoli freezing the second Turkish-Libyan “memorandum”, even adopting the arguments of Greece, Egypt and the EU. Nevertheless, Mr. Dbeibah seems to reassure Mr. ÇavuÅŸoÄŸlu, according to a statement by the Turkish Foreign Minister, that there is no problem and it will be implemented normally. What is your comment?
Answer of Nikos Dendias: “First of all, I would keep a very small basket in everything that comes from the Turkish side as information. Beyond that, however, a general position would be that a temporary government, I think, cannot comment on decisions of the Court. This is at least the case in all advanced countries. And, in fact, in a case which is also judged by a Higher Court”.
