Despite the very great difficulties we faced as a country, I can look you in the eyes and tell you that what we promised we did, said the Prime Minister from Xanthi
“I came to present my development vision for Thrace, a crossroads of cultures, a dynamic, developing Thrace that creates new jobs and advancement opportunities for you, your children and your grandchildren,” said the prime minister. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, addressing the citizens of Xanthi who gathered in the central square of the city to welcome him.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited in the morning Kavala and Xanthi, in the context of his two-day visit for the presentation of the plan for Eastern Macedonia and Thrace 2030.
“Despite the very great difficulties we faced as a country, I can look you in the eyes and tell you that we did what we promised. We told you we would cut taxes and we cut them. We told you we would create jobs and we created them. We told you that we would turn Greece into a big construction site with small, medium and large projects and we are doing it.
But most of all we told you that we will have a great and strong homeland, which will protect its borders and confidently look to the future, and we did. Greece today is much stronger than it was in 2019 and you here in Thrace know better than anyone how many great challenges we have been called to face”, noted the Prime Minister, addressing citizens who welcomed him in the central square of Xanthi.
“With this same energy and with this same commitment to the end goal we will continue, my friends, we will work until the last day to improve and make your own life better. We will support society, our weaker fellow citizens, the dividend of development returns to society. We are increasing pensions for the first time in 12 years, you will see it at the end of the month. The personal difference is also fixed. We are supporting households with the “Market Pass”, which will come and be put into operation this coming February. And there will be a new increase in the minimum wage from April 1″, Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized.
The Prime Minister’s first stop was a traditional shop that offers local sweets, in Nea Karvali. Afterwards, he visited the company “Egnatia Aviation”, at the old airport of Amygdaleona Kavala. Kyriakos Mitsotakis was given a tour of the airport facilities and had the opportunity to talk with instructors and students of the civil airline pilot training school established by “Egnatia Aviation”.
The company’s aim is to create a European standard Aviation Training Center data, as part of the total investment of more than 8 million euros, which is expected to be completed by 2025.
“The state must be at the service of the citizen and the businessman. I think that precisely this change of culture and mentality helped a lot in Greece being the protagonist today – from where it was the tail – in attracting foreign and domestic investments at the same time”, noted the Prime Minister, in a discussion he had with the CEO of the company Dimitris Lymperakis , the General Manager Giorgos Zografakis and the Director of the Airport Konstantinos Vouzios, who pointed out the care and interest shown in the investment by the Civil Aviation Authority and the Civil Aviation Service.
“We are always ready to look at other issues – they concern me too – that have to do with the further utilization of our small regional airports. I think that new perspectives can be opened, beyond and above your classic work, education”, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis, while underlining that Greek businessmen can talk to their partners abroad as “representatives of a country that has changed the page now and it can give you the power to build new partnerships.”

The entire placement of the Prime Minister in Xanthi
Be well, thank you very much for this warm welcome. May we have a good year, with health, happiness for you, your families, progress for our country above all and a great victory for our faction, New Democracy.
I don’t want to tell you much today. I want to repeat once more how happy I am to start this tour of Thrace here, from Xanthi, a city that I love very much, a city that I remember visiting in 2002 with Konstantinos Mitsotakis, in one of the his last appearances as an active politician, a politician who has identified his path with Thrace.
I also feel the need to meet with you today, we will have the opportunity in the afternoon to speak from Komotini about my development vision for Thrace, the crossroads of cultures: a dynamic, developing Thrace, which creates new jobs and advancement opportunities for you, your children and your grandchildren.
We have closed 3.5 years, friends, in the governance of the country and we are slowly entering an election year. And I feel satisfied that despite the very great difficulties we faced as a country I can look you in the eyes and tell you that what we promised we did.
Greece today is much stronger than it was in 2019 and you here in Thrace know better than anyone how many great challenges we have been called to face.
With this same energy and with this same commitment to the end goal we will continue, my friends, we will work until the last day to improve and make your own life better.
We will support society, our weaker fellow citizens, the dividend of development returns to society. We are increasing pensions for the first time in 12 years, you will see it at the end of the month. The personal difference is also fixed. We are supporting households with the ‘Market Pass’ which will come and go live next February. And there will be another increase in the minimum wage from April 1st.
These are just some evidences of a government that is committed to the goal and the goal is to improve your own life and make it better every day.
I want to thank you again for your presence today here in Xanthi. I had the opportunity to walk a little in the market, to shake your hand, to ask you for a large contribution to the electoral battle that we will fight.
We achieved a lot, we can do more, with your own strength, with your own support. Be well and I am waiting for you this afternoon for anyone who wants to in Komotini, to listen in detail to our development plan for the whole of Thrace.
