“The Greek Government pursues a foreign policy beyond the narrow horizon,” said the Foreign Minister
The imperative presence of Greece in Africa and the development of relations with African states was pointed out as a need by Nikos Dendiasafter completing his tour in Ivory Coast, Ghana and Gabon.
More specifically, the Foreign Minister told reporters:
“I am finishing today here in Libreville, the capital of Gabon, the tour of three West African countries, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Gabon.
All three of these countries have signed UNCLOS, the International Convention on the Law of the Sea, they have appealed to international jurisdictions to implement UNCLOS, and they also have a system to protect their fishing rights, which also concerns Greece.
In addition, two of the three, Ghana and Gabon are non-permanent members United Nations Security Council.
All three of these countries support the Greek candidacy for our election to the United Nations Security Council.
The Greek Government pursues a foreign policy beyond the narrow horizon. We believe that the Greek presence should exist in Africa and there are many points in common, on the basis of which we can develop our political and economic relations with these countries”.
