In her last Instagram post before her death, the singer opened up about her life after her son’s suicide in 2020
In her last post on social media last August, Lisa Marie Presley reveals she lives with “grief” and feels “devastated” after her son’s death.
Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s only child died in hospital on Thursday after a seizure at her home in Calabasas, California. He was 54 years old.
In her final Instagram post before her death, the singer opened up about life after her son’s tragic death Benjamin Kiou.
Kiou committed suicide at the age of 27 on July 12, 2020, at his home in California.
On the occasion of National Grief Awareness Day in August, the singer penned an article for People magazine about the overwhelming grief she continues to feel over her son’s sudden death.
“Today is National Grief Awareness Day, and since I’ve been living in the horrible reality of its relentless ‘grips’ since my son’s death two years ago, I thought I’d share a few things that should be known about grief for anyone interested,” she wrote to her 583,000 followers. “If not to help yourself, but perhaps to help another who is grieving.”
Presley said she found that “sadness does not stop or go away ‘in any sense”.
“Grief is something that you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life, despite what some people in our culture would like to believe. You don’t ‘get over it’, you don’t ‘move on’, period,” he notes.
She admitted she feels “judged and blamed” for her son’s death.
“I’ve already been fighting and ‘beating’ myself non-stop for years, blaming myself every day, and that’s already hard to live with, but others will judge and blame you too, even secretly or behind your back yours, which is even more cruel and painful, along with everything else,” he said characteristically.
Presley said her three daughters’ lives, in addition to her own, were “completely derailed and destroyed” by Benjamin’s death. “Nothing, absolutely NOTHING takes away the pain, but support can sometimes help you feel a little less alone,” she wrote.
