The Alexandroupoli Power Plant will cost 400,000,000 euros, will employ 800 workers

“Alexandroupoli has and will continue to have an extremely pivotal geopolitical, energy and development role,” the prime minister pointed out Kyriakos Mitsotakisduring his speech at the opening ceremony of the implementation of the Alexandroupoli Power Plant, from natural gas, with a capacity of 840 megawatts, which will be built with the partnership of three groups, PPC, DEPA Emporia and the Kopelouzo group.

Mr. Mitsotakis said that Alexandroupolis is turning into an energy gateway with a regional and European dimension and “the TAP and IGB pipelines will run through the Balkans to supply our wider region, and tomorrow, why not, even reach Ukraine ».

“This new unit, which we are essentially establishing today, also responds to the pressures of the present, but it also responds to the challenges of the future. It will increase our ability to produce electricity, reducing electricity imports, but mainly increasing exports,” said the Prime Minister.

Alexandroupolis acquires a strategic role in the energy chessboard and, as he noted, “We aspire to be a provider of energy security for our neighbors in the Balkans.”

The Alexandroupoli Power Plant will cost 400,000,000 euros, will employ 800 workers and will gradually hire 100 executives. It will be ready in 32 months and Mr. Mitsotakis expressed the expectation that he will be in the government then to inaugurate it.

Together with the floating liquefied natural gas degassing station FSRU, which will be ready in 2024, they are a “twin dynamic step into tomorrow’s energy era”, he noted.

Mr. Mitsotakis also referred to what his government has done for the energy security of the country and underlined: “All that has been done so far was not done by chance, nor easily. They were achieved thanks to a far-sighted, bold, but also quick energy policy, which, in this area too, adapted the national possibilities to the international reality with great speed. We had to turn this test into an opportunity and that’s exactly what we did.”
