Mitsotakis: The Greece of 2023 is stronger than ever – Protecting its borders and national dignity

“The Greece of 2023 is stronger than ever. Geopolitically, economically, socially. It protects its borders and national dignity, strengthens its alliances and exploits its natural, energy resources. With its collective wealth returning to its society”.

The above is mentioned, among other things, in a written message from the prime minister and president of the ND, Kyriakou Mitsotakis, which was read during an event organized today in Patra by Steering Committee of Electoral Achaia of the ND, for the cutting of the New Year’s pie, with the speaker, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias.

Referring to the new year, Kyriakos Mitsotakis points out in his written message that “we welcome 2023 proud of what we have achieved and optimistic about what awaits us” and adds regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections: “Soon our first four-year government term will end. With the vote of our people, however, the second term of the New Democracy can be opened at the same time. It is in our hand. And so it will be.”

He also underlines that “we are building a country that moves forward and looks forward, and we have a duty to consolidate this trajectory of progress in the next elections, with a second strong mandate in advance”.

Addressing then Kyriakos Mitsotakis with his message to the participants of the event, he asks them to convey “the message of the faction to every citizen, everywhere in the country, with an open mind, unifying mood, but also convincing arguments”, adding: “Why the country cannot relive the nightmare of the past or become a prisoner of anarchy. It wants stability, consistency and continuity. So let’s go ahead and make 2023 the starting point of a new optimistic path. With our compass, the patriotism of responsibility and the welfare of society. With the national steering wheel, in the hands of those who know how to face storms”.

The following is the full message of the prime minister and president of the ND, Kyriakos Mitsotakis:

“New Democrats, New Democrats,

We welcome 2023 proud of what we have achieved and optimistic about what awaits us. Our first four-year government term will soon come to an end. With the vote of our people, however, the second term of the New Democracy can be opened at the same time. It is in our hand. And so it will be!

Since the summer of 2019, we have overcome many successive crises: first, the immigration invasions in the Evros. Immediately after, the coronavirus pandemic. Then, the energy boom from the war in Ukraine and global precision. And, constantly, the aggression of Turkey.

Against them, citizens and the State, we fought and won together. The economy and society remained afloat thanks to the brave support of the state. While, at the same time, the government put into practice its commitments. Indeed, Greek men and women pay less taxes, ENFIA and contributions today.

The national defense is shielded with modern fighters and frigates. Our exports are setting records. And the investments have already brought 250,000 new jobs. The country is at the forefront of development. And European Supervision is now a thing of the past. Therefore, our slogan “we said it, we did it” absolutely applies.

As is the case with many things we “say and do” now. So, in a little while 2,500,000 retirees, doctors and military will see increases in their salaries. Everyone will benefit from the universal abolition of the solidarity levy. But especially young workers, and from the third successive increase in the basic salary.

At the same time, the State is also raising ramparts in the price appreciation of the moment. With electricity and fuel subsidies. With low VAT for breeders and farmers. With the household basket. And covering 10% of each family’s basic expenses, from February until the summer.

The Greece of 2023, therefore, is stronger than ever. Geopolitically, economically, socially. It protects its borders and national dignity, strengthens its alliances and exploits its natural, energy resources. With its collective wealth returning to its society.

A society that now communicates with the state digitally. Without bureaucracy, queues and inconvenience. Who experiences a better everyday life. Studying in schools and universities that offer a professional future to the younger generation. And now having access to free preventive medical examinations.

All this did not happen without obstacles or without mistakes. We overcome the first ones. While we learn from the latter. This is how we build a country that moves forward and looks ahead. And we have a duty to consolidate this trajectory of progress in the next elections. With a second strong command in advance.

A lot happened. But much more awaits us. The even better salaries. Affordable housing especially for the new generation. And decent public health for all. With modern hospitals and proper primary care. These are our new bets for the next four years. And we will win!

On the threshold of the new year, I am especially addressing you, the soul of the party: New Democrats, thank you for your contribution all this time. To invite you beside me, in the beautiful struggle for our new victory. For independent Greece and the powerful New Republic.

I request you to convey the message of the faction to every citizen, everywhere in the place. With an open mind, unifying mood, but also persuasive arguments. Because the country cannot relive the nightmare of the past or become a prisoner of lack of governance. He wants stability, consistency and continuity!

So let’s go ahead and make 2023 the starting point of a new optimistic path. With our compass, the patriotism of responsibility and the welfare of society. With the national helm, in the hands of those who know how to weather storms. And our blue hearts and flags high! Health and good strength to everyone!”
