The well-known journalist and press representative of SYRIZA-PS, in an interview, answers the question about the motivation that led her to take this position

“The time has come for all of us to assume our responsibilities”, declares the press representative of SYRIZA-PS, Popi Tsapanidou, in an interview with the “Editors’ Newspaper”, answering the question about the motivation that led her to take this position and adds that “these elections will be very crucial for our future and that of our children”.

He then explains: “The debt that every citizen feels they have for the way things are going in their country was the driving force for me to make this decision. In a political juncture where the rule of law is under threat, where accuracy is knocking on the door of every household and every small and medium business, and where young people are pessimistic about their future, one cannot say “I don’t see what is happening around me”. I will do everything I can to deliver so that we can achieve political change in the coming elections.”

When asked about her political and ideological stigma, she notes: “If one is considered a leftist who cares for those who have been deprived of the possibilities of others, who is interested in human rights, who does not turn a blind eye to difficult situations in his work environment and who seeks a progressive direction for society, then, yes, that is the political framework I would like to identify with.”

To a question about whether the fact that he was not a member of SYRIZA is a hindrance, he replied: “As a citizen, I always perceived myself as belonging to the large space in which all democratic and left-wing citizens in Greece move. In my journalistic career I have always been concerned with giving a voice to the weak, to the people who were not visible from the conservative centers of power, to those who were fighting for their survival, but also to those who were fighting, for example, for the rights of women or the LGBTI community. The fact that I did not participate in party life until today, I think is an example that the invitation to participate to people who were not active until now, was not only meant by SYRIZA – PS, but is already being implemented. So I, along with thousands of others, am happy to respond to this call, to contribute to the great changes that our country needs”.

Mrs. Tsapanidou argues that SYRIZA can gain hegemony in society and explains: “In the three and a half years that have passed since the last elections, SYRIZA-PS has tabled a series of proposals on the economy, culture, health, education, development, housing, energy, public transport, labour, public administration, security, foreign policy and immigration, which form a progressive agenda of governance in relation to the ultra-conservative and neo-liberal plan being implemented today by Mr. Mitsotakis. SYRIZA – PS is a party with open horizons and honest people. And this is the key with which he will win back the trust of the majority of citizens in the next elections”.

As for whether he will be in the next parliament, he answers: “As you know, the discussion about the SYRIZA-PS ballots is currently ongoing. Therefore, you should be patient until the final decisions of Alexis Tsipras and the Party Organs”.
