Tsipras: Mitsotakis instead of income support measures makes the traffic warden in the cartels

by

The president of SYRIZA Progressive Alliance, Alexis Tsipras, toured the Peristeri market on Thursday morning, during which he had the opportunity to discuss with consumers and shopkeepers the situation in the market in view of the Christmas holidays, the large price increases in all the products and the difficulties they face from the accuracy but also from the exorbitant electricity bills, which come cumulatively in the already burdened financial situation from the insecurity and the debts of the pandemic.

After his tour and the meeting he had with the Mayor of Peristeri, Mr. Andreas Pahaturidis, Mr. Tsipras made the following statement to the press:

“The market is groaning, the situation experienced by consumers and entrepreneurs is dramatic.

Price increases are unprecedented, the wave of accuracy is unprecedented, popular incomes are shrinking. In the third week citizens do not have to pay monthly bills.

In these circumstances, this Christmas is perhaps the most difficult of the last decade. And Mr. Mitsotakis, instead of taking measures to support the people’s income, pretends to be the traffic warden in the cartels and sends his minister to pretend to be an alien, that there is supposedly no accuracy and that the citizens call him to take a selfie outside the supermarkets.

But the situation is not for selfies for celebrations. The situation is dramatic. It’s not just the pandemic insecurity, it’s the scary wave of revenue shrinking income.

It is necessary to take immediate measures to support the people’s income. Raising the minimum wage to 800 euros, as has been the case across Europe, is now a necessity, as is reducing the Excise Tax to the lowest possible levels for households and businesses to breathe.

Mr. Mitsotakis, however, has proven that he neither wants nor can. The sooner he leaves, the better for us that we will undertake to resurrect society and lead it back to a path of security and perspective “.
