Dendias: Agios Marinos pledged to vote in favor of Greece for the UN Security Council

Referring to the importance of his visit to Agios Marinos, Nikos Dendias underlined that it was the first visit by a Greek foreign minister in the country’s history

In the announcement that he was served the note “on the basis of which San Marino pledged to vote in favor of Greece in our attempt to be elected a member of the United Nations Security Council” in the period 2025-26, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias in his statement after the end of his visit to Venice and San Marino.

Referring to the importance of his visit to Agios Marinos, Nikos Dendias underlined that it was the first visit by a Greek foreign minister in the country’s history. “A useful visit because we had the opportunity to exchange views on a number of issues, either in political consultations, for which I have signed the relevant memorandum, or on the Russian invasion of Ukraine” he said and additionally underlined that San Marino has imposed precisely the same sanctions as the European Union, having a very clear position on the issues of territorial integrity, independence and non-use of violence.

In fact, during the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of San Marino, Luca Beccari, Nikos Dendias was decorated with the Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of Sant’Agata (Patroness of Saint Marino). Regarding the discussion between the two foreign ministers, it focused on bilateral cooperation, EU-San Marino relations, as well as international and regional developments.

Before going to San Marino, the Foreign Minister visited the Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice. The Institute houses a huge Greek library, very important for the history of our homeland and especially of the Ionian Islands, as well as a large number of Byzantine and post-Byzantine era images, particularly important, pointed out Nikos Dendias. During his stay he met with the administration of the Institute and was received by Metropolitan Polykarpos. “We discussed how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which oversees the Institute, could facilitate its further development,” the foreign minister said in his statement.
