Cavusoglu: Irritation and disappointment after the meeting with Blinken

Irritated and disappointed, the Turkish foreign minister appeared, Mevlut Cavusogluafter meeting with his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, in Washington, as Ankara does not seem to have received any clear statement from Washington on the F-16s.

According to what SKAI correspondent Manolis Kostidis reports from Istanbul, the Cavusoglu he repeated that “Greece is militarizing the islands with American weapons and the US is saying nothing” and that “Menendez and some others are trying to block the sale of F-16s”.

Cavusoglu showed his displeasure with all nine American bases in Greece.

Mevlut Cavusoglu stated in Haber Global: “There are indications that the balanced policy of the USA in relation to Greece has changed. Although recently they tried with some of their statements to maintain some balance, in practice we see that this balance has been broken. I am not saying this just because of some statements by Menendez and some others who are trying to block the sale of F-16s to Turkey.

Here Greece is violating the demilitarization regime of the islands and this is happening with the armored vehicles granted by the USA and on this issue there was no objection from the USA. They didn’t say ‘you can’t do that’. Also, Greece states that the nine bases (of the US) are for balancing Turkey and we have not seen any statement from the US that contradicts this”.

The Turkish Foreign Minister also stated: “Mr. Blinken told us today that ‘we maintain the balance between the two sides and keep a balanced attitude'”.

At another point, Mevlut Cavusoglu he stated that “they will not do to Turkey what they want, because they want to sell us F-16” and added that “Greece provokes and provokes with the support of the USA”.

Now only Menendez’s voice can be heard, but maybe other voices will be heard. In efforts to block the sale and the steps they are taking if the US administration shows determination, the issue will be resolved. The administration is not shifting the blame to Congress or elsewhere. Just like we don’t accept being handcuffed and we don’t do business with the logic that by selling the F-16s and modernizing them we will do whatever we want in Turkey… And enemies and friends have seen that things don’t work with this way.
