The difficult battle of the nine monohedrals

The picture was completely different during the years of Koumundourou’s rule.

His Antonis Angeletou

“The first gets everything and the second gets nothing.”

This applies to the “7+2” unicameral parties that will set the tone for the fierce battle between New Democracy and SYRIZA in the upcoming elections.

In relation to the previous meeting, the regions with only one seat have increased by two due to the new census which recorded the decrease of the population in Kastoria and Thesprotia.

In 2019, New Democracy won the battle against SYRIZA in Grevena, Evrytania, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Lefkada, Samos, and Fokida.

The picture was completely different during the years of Koumundourou’s rule.

The party of Alexis Tsipras had prevailed in September 2015 in Samos, Grevena, Zakynthos, Kefalonia and Phocis, but also in Thesprotia which was bipartisan at the time.

In the last elections in Evrytania, Lefkada, Fokida and Grevena, the difference with the blue faction moved from 14 to 19 points.

In Zakynthos, New Democracy was the first to cut the thread with a ten point difference, while things are more manageable for SYRIZA in Samos which lost with 5.05% and in Kefalonia with 5.49%.

Kastoria is a traditional “castle” of Piraeus with Olympia Teligioridou from the official opposition being asked to give a difficult fight.

In the prefecture of Western Macedonia three and a half years ago, the current MP Zisis Tzikalayas prevailed, recording a percentage for the blue faction of 50.23%.

He won by a small margin the head of the prime minister’s office in Northern Greece, Maria Antoniou. Marios Katsis in Epirus is called to make the prefecture “pink” again, as it was in September 2015.

He has been elected since 2012 and has very close contact with the residents of the area.

In 2019, Vassilis Yogiakas won the seat from the current majority.

Grevena is of particular interest, as after the deletion of Andreas Patsis (he had left Thanasis Stavropoulos behind by approximately 700 votes) from the New Democracy parliamentary group, special planning is already being done to cover the gap.

The issue is what will be the reaction of the local community and whether it will affect the percentages of the majority.

Why are single seats important to political forces running for power since seats are allocated based on overall percentage?

It is the political sign of sovereignty given for the “difficult” prefectures, but also of the air of victory.

Especially since the eyes are on the second elections that will probably be held.

The color of the electoral map will create an image that will be used communicatively by the first person at the ballot box.
