The “summer” of the ballot box and the 8-week strategy

The goal of Megaros Maximos is to have a strong result in the first ballot so that the possibility of independence in the second elections is not in question.

“April May” near the heat, the people say, and based on the election timetables that the prime minister and government officials have described many times, this very period of April and May, Piraeus will be called upon to peak its pre-election strategy to reach the “heat” of the ballot box and to the intended result of self-reliance in the upcoming elections.

The strategy of the blue faction and Megaros Maximos may already be unfolding in the informal pre-election period that the country has been going through for a long time, but the intensification and escalation of the election planning will unfold in the critical period of approximately eight weeks which is also the minimum time that required from the time the first elections are announced until the second.

A period that for the prime minister is not divided into first and second electoral contests but concerns the national elections as a whole that will determine who will rule the country the next day.

After all, the goal of Megaros Maximos is to have a strong result in the first ballot so that the possibility of independence in the second elections is not in doubt.

The dilemma is one and clear for Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who repeated it from the Davos Economic Forum during an interview he gave to the well-known CNN journalist, Farid Zakaria.

“In the elections, the Greeks will compare four years of a populist government and four years of our own government. If we win, which I believe we will, it will be a vote of confidence, but also an electoral process that they should pay attention to abroad as well. The old Left-Right dilemmas are no longer relevant, as is the dividing line between populists and pragmatists, progressive democrats,” he stressed.

He added that “the last 3.5 years have been very difficult, very painful. An example is the coronavirus, but when you look back and when you address the citizens to be re-elected, you say that you did your best, admit your mistakes and sleep well at night” he concluded.

After all, the comparison of the deeds of the ND government and the SYRIZA government 2015-2019 is expected to be high on the agenda of the pre-election strategy of Piraeus, as well as in the series of thematic interviews that Kyriakos Mitsotakis will give in the coming period, starting from next Monday, who will give a press conference on the economy, as announced by the government representative.

According to information, the said press interviews will concern specific thematic sections aimed at highlighting the government’s work that has been carried out as well as the planning for the next four years, if the result of the ballot once again highlights the ND government.

Also given that the goal on the way to the polls is to rally the ND voters as much as possible but also to attract the undecided, the tours of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, ministers and party officials will intensify in the next period.

As already seen from the prime minister’s last tour outside Attica, in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and in the tours now, the aim is to present not only the projects that are launched at the national level but also the actions that are going to be implemented at the regional and local level , in order to convey the message that the development will be “geographically fair”.

The specific strategy also captures the slogan of the ND which will be central to the pre-election period “we said it – we did it” while reinforcing the other slogan “stability or adventures” in the logic that the effort and effectiveness of the ND government is absolutely measurable and there is no scope for adventures and setbacks for which the country paid dearly.
