Mitsotakis from Crete: “Welcoming the motion of no confidence, we are absolutely ready for the great parliamentary battle”

by

On Friday we will take a vote of confidence again. And until we announce the elections we will continue our work normally, said the prime minister

With special reference to the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis, (which could also be translated as support in view of the self-governing elections), Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis began his presentation of the Development Plan for Crete.

What you see here in Crete is our perception of the applied policy. Our Government will not tire of facing problems in practice, of planning the future with optimism but also with the technocratic competence that the creation of such a plan requires. And as we slowly approach the elections which will be held sometime in the spring, I think the choices that the citizens have before them are very specific, said the Prime Minister and continued:

“We can talk about the future or we can sink the country into toxicity, division and polarization. I was informed that Mr. Tsipras has just filed a motion of no confidence in the Parliament against the government. The proposal is welcome. The truth is that I challenged him for many months to do it, he decided to do it now just before the elections. A very, very good opportunity, not only to reaffirm the cohesion of our parliamentary group, that’s for sure, but above all to compare what happened four years ago. I’m not looking for conflict, I’m looking for comparison. So let’s compare what SYRIZA did for four years and what we did. And I think this comparison will be quite catalytic. We will be given the opportunity to do it in Parliament in the coming days. Let the ministers talk about their work and of course we will also talk about the issues of the Rule of Law. Because even there we must not forget what happened in the past four years. So, we are absolutely ready for this great parliamentary battle. And I wish and hope that citizens will get past this cloud of toxicity, of highly polarized political discourse, and finally realize who they really are who can speak to them about their future. Because SYRIZA seeks this conflict because it has no proposals for the future of the country and because at the same time it cannot talk about the past of the country. Because no one from SYRIZA wants to remember the four years of their own government. So we will have the opportunity to say more tonight in the political speech that we will make. And from tomorrow we will be in the Parliament and on Friday we will get a vote of confidence again. And until we announce the elections we will continue our work as usual”.
