Hatzidakis: Toxic opposition from SYRIZA – The case of surveillance should be clarified and those responsible should be punished

Speech of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in the Plenary Session of the Parliament on the motion of no confidence

“There is not a single Greek who has been more disturbed by this story than I am. That is why I am the first to want this case to be clarified by the Justice as soon as possible, so that there are no shadows left and those responsible for all these unacceptable methods are punished”.

This was pointed out by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Kostis Hatzidakis, speaking today in the Plenary of the Parliament, in the debate on the motion of no confidence against the government, on the issue of monitoring by the EYP.

“While I am therefore interested in clarifying this case, beyond its institutional dimension and for deeply personal reasons, I have the impression that SYRIZA, both with its actions in recent months and with the content of the motion of censure, is primarily interested in damaging and to overthrow the government. He doesn’t hide it. And that is why he is targeting the Prime Minister”, added Mr. Hatzidakis.

THE Mr. Hatzidakis yhe recalled the initiatives undertaken by the prime minister by removing the general secretary of the Prime Minister and the commander of the EYP, noting that he has shown respect for the institutions. “But mainly in my case he is a Prime Minister with whom we have shared a common path for decades. It’s not a secret. It’s something everyone knows. And for this reason I repeat that I am absolutely convinced that the Prime Minister had no knowledge of this stinking case, which is now being used against him,” he added.

Referring to the official opposition party, he raised the question of who is criticizing and impersonating the prosecutor. “You have heard about the two special courts that the SYRIZA party currently has on its back. Have you heard of Maximos Sarafis? You have heard about wiretapping that was confirmed in some cases against your own ministers during SYRIZA. I agree with them, but I don’t want to make things worse. No one can deprive the opposition of the right to strictly control the government. However, the toxic and impassioned opposition, which SYRIZA constantly exercises but even more so in the last months, damages the country and its prospects”, he stressed. “Is SYRIZA talking about political respectability whose unreliability has become an international joke? Who a few months ago made the case of little Maria in Evros an opposition flag and does not dare to apologize? Who is accused of bags of black money? I especially do not accept lessons of seriousness, reliability and dignity from SYRIZA”, he underlined.

The Minister of Labor spoke about “agents 000”, or some “Cluzos” who decided to show off their police demon and exhaust their imagination at his expense and then “leaked the results of their unethical and illegal activities to anti-government media , for reasons that only the government does not serve”and underlined:

“I have nothing to fear, of course, because my political path is absolutely clear. All this is proven by all the private conversations that have been leaked. For so many years in politics I may have been accused of my ideological direction and political choices, but never, not even by the most fanatical opponent, of my moral standing and integrity. However, believe me, it is not pleasant at all to feel that your every word and every communication is being watched and that you are the target of such nefarious methods
Referring to the work of the government, he focused, among other things, on dealing with the successive crises of the corona virus, the Turkish provocation and the energy crisis, on the reduction of taxation and insurance contributions, the reduction of unemployment from 17.5 to 11.4%, the increase of minimum wage, the clearing of backlogs and the increase of pensions, measures for the family.

“We have never claimed to be an infallible government. The subject we are discussing is a classic case. But the balance is more than positive. This government has taken the country forward and is the only one that can ensure it a stable course and a modern perspective. All the more so that in front of us we have a party that unrepentantly seeks to return to power. To come back through an extreme, impassioned opposition and a country-damaging toxicity. The MPs of New Democracy will therefore reject the motion of no confidence. We will move forward with seriousness and a sense of national responsibility. Certainly aware of our mistakes. But also an awareness of the historicity of the moments. It is our obligation towards the Greeks. An obligation towards our homeland”, concluded Mr. Hatzidakis.
