The Minister of Citizen Protection attributed the submission of a motion of no confidence by SYRIZA to his failure to submit an alternative political proposal for the country
I strongly “accuse” SYRIZA that with the practices it engages in it does not exercise opposition to the ND, but undermines the country itself, addressed the Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos and with the motion of no confidence at the top he spoke of “a propaganda pre-election move, that invests in crises and division’ from the party that ‘harvested through them’ and is now attempting to bring them back.
Mr. Theodorikakos attributed the submission of a no-confidence motion on behalf of SYRIZA to its failure to submit an alternative political proposal for the country and emphasized that in fact this debate taking place today does not concern the government, but mainly addresses existential dilemmas and problems of the official opposition and emanates from its inability to rally its people. “It is another suggestion of bad faith towards the very social progress and unity of the Greeks and towards everything we have achieved in recent years, despite huge external crises and trials”, he said, justifying that this is happening because SYRIZA knows that it will always be a minority in Greece of creation and social cohesion, “will be the permanent opposition of the country, but also of its own progress”. “And he’s not just doing it now. The tactic has been known for months, because he realizes that he has lost the battle of ideas in society in recent years and decided to use the war of mud and slander”, he emphasized.
Criticizing the practices of SYRIZA as undermining the country itself, the Minister of Citizen Protection referred to the incident of last August in Evros “with the non-existent dead five-year-old Maria”, saying that SYRIZA, then acting as a willing instigator, presented the government as murderers and traitors, in an attempt to undermine our country internationally. “This effort collapsed with a wave and the German “Spiegel” apologized, you didn’t” he said addressing the chairs of the official opposition.
He also accused SYRIZA that while just the day before yesterday, all the ambassadors of Europe were in Evros and together with the government and “we were sending a strong message of determination” for the start of the construction of the new fence, its executives appeared on televisions denouncing that the fence violates the International Fair enough.
“Listen, listen. And after the inimitable “there are no borders in the sea”, mentioned by the then Prime Minister of SYRIZA, now it seems that you are ready to tell us that there are no borders in the Evros either”, he added.
“You don’t run an opposition in ND, you run an opposition in Greece. And in fact, a dangerous, destructive and subversive opposition” he complained to the official opposition party.
He recalled that last November the official opposition denounced the government of “authoritarianism and police democracy”, because after a coordinated operation ELAS entered the Zografou student hostel and dismantled three criminal organizations and addressed the SYRIZA wing, asking: “Where do you think did you object? To us or to the right of the poorest families for their children to have equal opportunities for education and guaranteed decent housing?’
He also referred to the vote against the country’s defense agreement, saying that the official opposition tried to block a defense agreement that is decisive for our national interests, especially in this period of great geopolitical turmoil, but also of threats from Turkey, and repeated the question to SYRIZA: “Where do you think you tried to oppose? To the government or to the national defense of the country itself?”
“And you come today, with lies, to create impressions of a government that operates parastatal and of a Judiciary, without independence, that operates on instructions. You do not even hesitate to poison the conscience of the society towards the functioning of the institutions, but also our Democracy itself. Only to justify your next defeat, because you have nothing to say to the Greeks, about the present and the future of the country. You are a party of protest and reaction to everything good that happens in the country” he underlined and contrasted that the main reason that ND has a strong political advantage is the credibility and efficiency of the government and personally of the prime minister, “because what we said We did it in 2019.”
“That’s why your entire argument has collapsed. SYRIZA is going to the elections without an alternative proposal in the economy and without a government proposal. The neoliberal policies you have been saying for so many years do not convince anyone, when this government supported -households, businesses, workers- with 50 billion in the face of the pandemic” he emphasized and went on to give an account of the work of the Ministry of Citizen Protection: “In the field of safety two are our priorities and we serve them consistently. The security of our neighborhoods and the security of our borders. Why, our security begins at our borders, where in 2022 the presence of ELAS forces in Evros prevented the entry of 260,000 illegal immigrants, the unfortunates that SYRIZA is instrumentalizing, and 1,500 traffickers were arrested throughout the territory. We are expanding the fence, upgrading the electronic surveillance systems and adding 400 new acrites. We always comply with International Law. With our policy our borders are inviolable. At the same time, we fight daily for safety in the neighborhoods. We are working for a modern, efficient, friendly Police. As a result of this effort, small and medium-sized crime – thefts, burglaries, vehicle thefts and robberies – affecting the citizen, shows a significant reduction. We are putting an end to iniquities and gray areas of lawlessness and criminality.
We are responding to the rise in domestic violence. We created 18 Domestic Violence Offices. Headed mainly by female officers. We stand by our police officers.”
Reply to Nikos Pappa
Mr. Theodorikakos said that SYRIZA, on the other hand, is here to escape, as he at least thinks, from his political impasses, because he has no proposals.
“Populism and division are the yesterday and today of your party. You poison public opinion, slander people, refuse to see your responsibilities. In your political desperation, you continue the moral descent. You don’t find a single word to answer the complaints of Mr. Kalogritsa and his trusted secretary that are being exposed to you” he said characteristically and responded in a strong tone to the former SYRIZA minister, Nikos Pappa, who accused him of having a partnership with Christos Kalogritsa.
“Some of you had the audacity to throw mud in the fan in my face, trying to criminalize well-known social relations and make “white black”. Some of you must be in great despair. Everyone knows that in 2016 in the then SYRIZA government, at the time of television licenses, the Minister of Public Works of your government at the time of television licenses was and is the best man of the businessman in question. I was an associate of the official opposition leader. I had nothing to do and no business with this entire story and personally, I am not going to allow anyone to tarnish a crystal clear 38 year career to serve their sick petty political pursuits. Not even to tarnish my spotless political attitude during the years that I have been involved in an institutional capacity in the political life of the country” said Mr. Theodorikakos.
He attributed these accusations to SYRIZA’s annoyance, because “people removed from society, with decades of hard work in the market, we are with ND and Kyriakos Mitsotakis”.
“You will endure it in the elections as well. We are the great majority of measure and reason, of change, of certainty and stability. You, however, know that the hooded witnesses, the anonymous complaints, the stories of the agents you used are reminiscent of other times. You are what you say, ladies and gentlemen of SYRIZA. It is painful to find out, but the cases are repeated. After all, in a few weeks you will get the answer of the Greek people. Another defeat awaits you in the national elections of 2023. Another four years in the seats of the opposition. This anxiety of yours does not concern the Greek people. No matter how much you try to pass it on to him. Because our country needs a steady hand at the wheel. And our people from a compass with a fixed orientation. Greece today is progressing, getting stronger, developing. Leaving behind the yesterday of the squares, the gallows, the hyperinflation of the middle class, the open borders and the closed banks. Greece deserves a certain and secure future. This is why ND will win the elections. Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be prime minister again”, said the Minister of Citizen Protection, concluding his speech.
