Tsakalotos: “If you’re going to cover up, do it with some style”

by

One of the mistakes that parties sometimes make is to adopt their propaganda and thus lose sight of reality.

“If you are going to cover up, do it with a little style,” said the Parliamentary Representative of SYRIZA – PS, Euclid Tsakalotos, on Thursday, January 26, 2023, during the debate on the motion of no confidence against the Government.

At the same time, he emphasized that the government owes answers for the regime of manipulation of institutions, persons, ministers and public opinion.

As he mentioned, one of the mistakes that parties sometimes make is to adopt their propaganda and thus lose sight of reality.

“I heard before Mr. Koumoutsakos who referred to the 2015 referendum and told us: “you who did not respect the popular mandate”… What did you tell us in 2015? That it is a referendum on who is for and against Europe. That’s why you came up with the slogan ‘We stay in Europe’. Now what do you come and tell us? That we didn’t respect that order. We told you that it’s a referendum on a specific proposal, which had then come from the troika, which we put in people’s vote and, precisely because we activated the popular factor, that armed the government to immediately bring a much softer deal and have the political strength to put it to the people’s vote in September ’15. This September ’15. 15, you guys who look back, why don’t you ever mention him? Why did that bother you. Because there was democratic legitimacy. That which you have very low on your own scale of values,” he said from the floor of the Parliament.

“Who is in charge of guarding the borders of the homeland with weapons? Is it A/GEETHA, yes or no? For two years you watched him, yes or no? Two years of continuous surveillance means twelve orders. Twelve surveillance orders constantly renewed. There was a national why were you following him?” he asked in between and summarized that these questions are very political, very serious and obviously cannot be answered by the ADAE investigation.

“The ADAE investigation says what you have so far denied and which you personally, Mr. Voridis, had the courage to admit: “there was surveillance”. With the stamp of the EYP and the consent of the political leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis. And this, what we found Dimitriadis and took the sin with him, they don’t count. Dimitriadis was not just anyone. He was working under the signature of Mr. Prime Minister,” he said.

He went on to say that this whole system, this regime of multiple and multi-level surveillance, which did not stop only at EYP, but also had the synergies of Predator – which, however, was operated by state employees – combined with the history of the Romanian company, they constitute exactly this entire framework of manipulation of Institutions, persons, ministers, public opinion.

“That’s why we talk about a “spying Democracy”, after all, therefore a non-Democracy. That’s why we are dismissing you today and you are called to respond to them”, he underlined.

At the same time, he argued that Mr. Hatzidakis, the man who handled all the major privatizations of recent years under the governments of the ND, cannot appear, be monitored and say “I believe that Mr. Mitsotakis has absolutely nothing to do with it”.

“And who has it? If the political leader doesn’t have it, then what is he, dangerous, ignorant, all this was happening under his nose? Can he remain in this position?” he wondered.

Mr. Tsakalotos spoke, among other things, of the “throw the ball from outside” tactic, of “other words to love each other”, which he estimated will surely be adopted heading into the elections.

“Because it doesn’t suit you, not only the comparison in terms of government terms, but also that we will have to talk about what we received. There… leave them. Leave what we received. Read Tsakalotos’ book, it’s good help, I recommend it,” he said.
