Tsipras on Holocaust Day: The nostalgia of the greatest darkness reaches even the seats of the Greek Parliament

by

“Trump fanatics, Bolsonarians, gold rushers – they change names but they are always the same” says, among other things, the president of SYRIZA in his post on the occasion of Holocaust Day

“Unfortunately, the black pages of modern history did not end in the Nazi concentration camps,” says the president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Holocaust and Remembrance Day of the Greek Jewish Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust

“The nostalgics of the greatest darkness reach from the American Capitol to the streets of Brasilia and – until recently – the seats of the Greek Parliament”, he notes and adds: “Fanatical Trumpists, Bolsonarians, gold rushers – they change names but they are always the same. They invest in poverty and need, they capitalize on fear, they hate man.”

He also notes that “against oblivion, we contrast memory, humanity, solidarity. We owe it to the victims who lost their lives in the Nazi concentration camps, we owe it to the peoples who fight the Beast every day, we owe it to our people who have learned again in recent years that Democracy is not an acquisition but a daily struggle.
In the meeting we had just before his inauguration, President Lula had said to me, prophetically: “We are done with Bolsonaro but not with Bolsonarism”.

In fact, he notes that in our country “we are done with the Golden Dawn but not with gold rush, which has many forms and manifestations – with the most dangerous being the veiled ones, the allegedly harmless ones, the taha tolerated ones. But we must also take the necessary institutional measures so that convicted neo-Nazi criminals never again have the opportunity to poison public life with their intolerance. That is why today is a day of vigilance. Democratic citizens have their eyes open.”
