Michailidou: The reintegration of our most vulnerable fellow citizens is a social necessity

“The reintegration of our most vulnerable fellow citizens into the social fabric and the labor market is not just a priority, but a social necessity“, said the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, on the occasion of her visit to the Homeless Day Open Center of the Social Solidarity Network of the Attica Region, operated by PRAKSIS in Piraeus.

The deputy minister discussed with the beneficiaries and the workers about the care services that are given every day.

The Center provides free clean clothing, access to bathrooms and laundries, meals, medical care, information on reintegration programs, as well as psychosocial support.

The Region of Attica covers monthly the rent, utility bills, but also supports with the necessary electrical equipment and clothing. To date, the Center has received more than 8,000 visits from vulnerable citizens.

Ms. Michailidou, in the discussion she had with the employees and the administration of the Center, also emphasized the importance of the program “Housing and Work“, which is a radical solution for the integration and reintegration of the beneficiaries into society and the labor market.

The president of the Social Solidarity Network of the Attica Region and deputy governor of Piraeus, Stavroula Antonakou, said:We support our fellow citizens who live in homelessness every day, offering them all the necessary services for their dignified living. Our goal is the smooth reintegration of everyone into society. With the support of the State, as well as the necessary synergies with the competent agencies, we continue to protect the rights of every citizen who is most in need».

For her part, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou, underlined: “Homelessness is the most severe form of social exclusion. That is why, for four years now, we have been doing everything in our power to ensure the reintegration of our most vulnerable fellow citizens into society and the labor market. With actions and not words we constantly create the conditions so that all our fellow citizens can meet their needs and live with dignity. And in this effort it is important that we all continue to be together, State and competent bodies. We support every initiative that strengthens the social protection of the most vulnerable. We leave no one behind».
