PASOK-KINAL concludes that our fellow citizens and households, who can no longer bear the increasing precision
“Eurostat’s estimate of the harmonized index of consumer prices for January 2023 confirms that despite the de-escalation of energy prices, both inflation and core inflation persist, driven by large food price hikes“, states the Finance Department of PASOK-KINAL in a statement, with which it comments on the announcements of the European Statistical Authority.
PASOK-KINAL points out that “the large loss of income from inflation cannot be covered by the increase in disposable income, as Mr. Staikouras solemnly declared, not only because of the unequal distribution of income, but also mainly because, as all surveys show, the poorest households spend more of their income on food and other necessities, whose prices are rising at more than twice the average rate of inflation».
He points out that “according to the INE GSEE survey, the income losses of those paid less than 750 euros/month are up to 40%. At the same time, according to ELSTAT, the savings rate, in relation to disposable income, is gradually landing at 2.6% against around 5% in the 3rd quarter of 2021 since the increase in disposable income falls short of the increase in consumer spending during the same period».
PASOK-KINAL concludes that our fellow citizens and households, who can no longer bear the increasing precision, demand permanent and effective measures and not subsidized one-off benefits, which not only do not address the problem but ultimately result in the poor becoming poorer and the rich richer.
