Kerameos to SKAI: I don’t know a European equivalent of the Greek one in distance learning

Today, the new bill on intra-school violence and bullying is submitted for public consultation, while the platform for the individual evaluation of teachers opens today, tomorrow at the latest, he told SKAI and the program Today Niki Kerameos.

“The bill provides additional measures to strengthen the safety of children from the scourge of bullying, school bullying” explained the Minister of Education.

The minister attacked the president of SYRIZA for the official opposition’s decision to abstain from the proceedings of the Parliament. “Mr. Tsipras said ‘we abstain from all votes until the elections’. “I don’t know a European analogue in distance education. I don’t know any other country, like Greece today, that can transfer in half or an hour the process, a whole mechanism has been set up” he also pointed out.

“During the pandemic, Mr. Filis was against distance education. If he was the Minister of Education, our children would be in the dark for 6-7 months.”

“We started with 37,000 segments on the first day, and yesterday we had 18,500 segments closed. We have a constantly decreasing distance education because we have a constantly decreasing number of departments that are closed”, explained Mrs. Kerameos about the bad weather.

On Monday we had 37,000 online classes, which worked despite extremely difficult conditions. We now have an education system that can jump from live education to distance education within an hour. It worked normally without technical problems, with some exceptions if there were power outages, this is credited to the teachers and students.” Distance education, Ms. Kerameos continued, has kept the educational process alive in areas with a lot of snow like Florina.

Ms. Kerameos criticized SYRIZA’s Head of Education, Nikos Fili, who urged the children to turn off the screens and play in the snow.

“We want play to be a part of life, education does not exclude play, why can’t you do distance learning? We have schools closed for the third day. We have a mechanism that does not allow the educational process to be interrupted. Parents work, what parent gives up and says ‘kids we play for four days’, the children must maintain continuity with the educational process”. He accused Mr. Fili of “unbridled populism and a logic of knockdown, minimal effort, and leveling everything down.”

“No one says distance learning can to replace lifelong learninghowever, the Minister of Education clarified.

Individual evaluation of teachers

As regards the platform for the individual evaluation of teachers, Niki Kerameos explained that the pairs of evaluated – evaluator are made immediately. “Teachers are starting to submit their information, their portfolio, all the information related to their professional career, and thus, after 41 years, the individual evaluation of teachers begins, which has many phases (interview, live observations in the classroom) is the third level. The first is the evaluation of the school and the second of the education system that started last year and are continuing.”
