Economou to SKAI: The decision of the Supreme Court confirms the Law passed by SYRIZA in 2015

The government representative pointed out that over 1,300,000 households have settled their debts and that debt settlements of 27 billion euros have been made for over 550,000 citizens

“Nothing has changed in relation to auctions and the protection of the first home. The decision of the Supreme Court simply confirms a Law passed by SYRIZA in 2015”, he told SKAI and the show “good morning” by Giorgos Avtias the government representative Giannis Oikonomou.

“The issue is through regulations to make it possible for people’s houses not to go under the hammer and not to hide the problem under the carpet with continuous suspensions,” he added.

As the government representative pointed out, “recently, over 1,300,000 households have settled their debts and debt settlements of 27 billion euros have been made for over 550,000 citizens, among them vulnerable ones. The government, with its regulations, has made it possible to subsidize the installments so that people can go and regulate. The citizen has weapons to use, to be informed. The instructions and the will they have is that the first residence is not put up for auction, they do not gain anything from it.”

Addressing the official opposition, he emphasized that “speculation and hypocrisy are being attempted. It is the epitome of hypocrisy and pharisaism. The decision confirmed the SYRIZA Law passed in 2015. And those, who legislated the strictest measures regarding auctions, made its prevention a personal name, legislated electronic auctions and come to point the finger at the government. The dangerous thing is that they panic the world and create conditions of speculation while there are tools and ways for the world to regulate”.

“There are measures that enable the most vulnerable to regulate and suspend any legal adventure they may have. There are measures for vulnerable people to protect them from auctions. Our purpose is to protect those who are really in need”, concluded Mr. Economou.
