Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today Friday with a cross-party delegation from the United States Congress, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
During the meeting, which took place for the second consecutive year, there was an exchange of views on international and regional issues, with an emphasis on the consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the support that Greece has provided from the very beginning.
The Prime Minister pointed out the constant support of Greece to Ukraine, while he analyzed the upgraded role of our country as a pillar of geopolitics and energy security and stability in the wider region of Southeastern Europe. Immigration and Greece’s role in protecting the external borders of the European Union were also discussed.
There was also an exchange of views on the devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria. Kyriakos Mitsotakis underlined the immediate response of Greece and the Greek people, both by sending rescue crews and by gathering humanitarian aid, adding that Greek aid will continue.
Finally, in view of the 4th Round of the Greece-US Strategic Dialogue next Tuesday in Athens, it was emphasized that bilateral relations are at an excellent level.
The congressional delegation, led by Senator Lindsey Graham, includes the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Robert Menendez, Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Sheldon Whitehouse, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Richard J. Durbin and Senator Chris Van Hollen.
The Prime Minister also had meetings with Serbian President Aleksandar Vuksevic and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The leaders exchanged views on developments in the region. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Greece’s support for the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
