Piraeus expressed their displeasure with the appointment of the specific referee in the away match on Sunday (19/2, 16:00) for the 23rd matchday Stoiximan Super Leaguerequesting his immediate replacement.

The letter in detail

As you know, next Sunday, February 19, 2023, the Superleague 1 match between PAE OLYMPIAKOS and PAE LAMIA will be held at the Lamia stadium. PAE OLYMPIAKOS is among the teams claiming the championship and PAE LAMIA among those claiming to stay in the division.

In this important game from every point of view, the KED decided to appoint Mr. Konstantinos Katikos, one of the most inappropriate referees on the refereeing boards, as the referee of the match.

We remind you that last July when the referee tables for the current period were drawn up, the KED decided that the specific Referee does not meet the specifications to be promoted to the first category despite the intense pressures of Mr. P. Dimitriou and St. Mandalou to be included in Superleague 1 Referees.

It is a given that Mr. Benett knows this as he was one of the KED Members who participated in making this decision and he had fully agreed with the incapacity of Mr. Resident.

Surprisingly, when he became Chief Referee he changed his mind and “upgraded” him to Suprelague 1 Referee, without having officiated any game since the day the KED deemed him unfit to officiate A National Division matches, turning him into the fastest developing referee in Greece.

And while the specific Referee has the specific past, we reached the point today that Mr. Katikos is appointed (by whom?) in such a crucial game, and indeed with the 4th referee Mr. Tsagarakis, the Referee who is controlled for the PAE match ASTERAS TRIPOLIS – PAOK for which just yesterday KED was forced to publicly apologize.

It is obvious that the selection of this particular Referee does not meet the requirements of such a match. This definition is challenging and at the same time a ticking time bomb to the foundation of the league at an extremely crucial point.

We invite you even now, at the last moment, to replace Mr. Resident while there is still time. Otherwise, we hold you solely responsible for anything that happens from now on in the Superleague 1 Championship.
