The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today Wednesday at the Maximos Palace with Kristian Schmidt, Director responsible for land transport in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, the Executive Director of the European Railway Organization Josef Doppelbauer, Elzbieta Lukaniuk, member of the staff of Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean, and the Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Greece, Eleni Paleologu.
In the shadow of the fatal accident in Tempe, the members of the European mission presented to the Prime Minister the first thoughts, which will be formulated into specific proposals, for the improvement of operation of the railway networkthe safety of transport, the upgrading of infrastructure, the adoption of best practices and the best possible utilization of European resources for investments in the Greek railways.
The Prime Minister pledged that Greece, in the context of the completely transparent investigation of the tragedy in Tempi, will take full advantage the expertise and experience of the European services.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of State responsible for Infrastructure and Transport issues, Giorgos Gerapetritis, and the Director of the Prime Minister’s Diplomatic Office, Ambassador Anna Maria Boura.
“We are not going to hide behind human error. We will look into the issue until the end. Suffering must find purification” assured earlier George Gerapetritisannouncing the restart of the railway in terms of absolute safety and as a first measure the presence of two station masters at all stations.
