We feel responsible and ashamed and there must be immediate clarification in every direction, to ensure that such a tragedy will never happen again,” said Ms. Sakellaropoulou.
“To ensure that the investigation into the causes of the tragedy is carried out transparently and quickly to deliver justice,” said the prime minister for his part and added that there is justified anger over a tragedy that should not have happened.
“Every Greek man and every Greek woman identify with the relatives of the victims, we see the victims as our children, our friends, our relatives. There is justified anger over an event that should not have happened. I assume the responsibility that belongs to the government during whose term the tragedy took place” said Mr. Mitsotakis and added:
“Time cannot be turned back. What we have to do is on the one hand to ensure as far as the government is concerned that the investigation is done with complete transparency and maximum speed. In this effort I will not hesitate to use all European help. On the other hand, we must take immediate corrective actions for the safety of the trains.
