“The country is experiencing a tragedy of deep open and collective trauma. Society gets angry and loses trust in institutions. We feel responsible and ashamed and there must be immediate clarification in every direction, to ensure that such a tragedy will never happen again,” said Ms. Sakellaropoulou.

“To ensure that the investigation into the causes of the tragedy is carried out transparently and quickly to deliver justice,” said the prime minister for his part and added that there is justified anger over a tragedy that should not have happened.

“Every Greek man and every Greek woman identify with the relatives of the victims, we see the victims as our children, our friends, our relatives.
