The strong reaction of the government representative Yannis Economou caused by what the SYRIZA Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Christos Spirtzis, supported while speaking to Ska and the “Mismatches”. As he states in his statement, Spirtzis’ statement “which constitutes a sad monument of cynicism, confusion and lies, is summed up as follows: “We are not to blame for anything”. It is the cynical line of all SYRIZA executives. Responsibilities are borne by those before and after, not them. Pharisees claim that the pathologies and attitudes that gave birth to the tragedy of Tempe do not concern them”.

The full statement of Mr. Economos follows:

From the first moment, the Government clearly assumed its responsibility for the tragic accident in Tembo. Mr. Spirtzis, for 4.5 years the Minister of Transport of the SYRIZA governments, appeared today to take his position, ten days after the tragic accident. His position, which is a sad monument to cynicism, confusion and lies, is summed up in this: “It’s not our fault.” It is the cynical line of all SYRIZA executives. Responsibilities are borne by those before and after, not them. Pharisees claim that the pathologies and attitudes that gave birth to the tragedy of Tempe do not concern them.
Mr Spirtzis and the government he served failed to complete the necessary infrastructure and railway modernization projects to upgrade safety. The implementation of the infamous contract for the period 2017-2019 had completely stopped. He must have an excess of audacity to claim that the railway was working as a “clock” during SYRIZA and was dismantled by the ND Government.
At this time, partisan bickering is ungrateful and completely unnecessary. It is not what the occasion and society demands. But one thing is the attitude of responsibility and the search for the truth, and another is lies and pharisaism. For this reason, we invite Mr. Spirtzis to attend the Production and Trade Committee of the Parliament, in a confrontational discussion with the Minister of the Territory, responsible for Transport issues, Mr. Gerapetritis, in order to capture the real situation with documents and data. No cover up. Citizens demand accountability and responsibility, not lies and evasions.
