Nikos Androulakis visited the 2nd EMAK and the civil protection volunteers of the Municipality of Thermi
The 2nd EMAK, which shouldered the burden of rescues as well as the tragic task of locating the dead passengers of the train accident in Tempi, was visited on Monday morning by the President of PASOK – Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis.
Addressing the EMAK staff, Mr. Androulakis noted:
“You have made us proud with your presence in Turkey and in Tempe. You are the representatives of humanity and solidarity that we so need in this difficult time. Above all, as a role model for all of us, but especially for the younger generations. That is why I wanted to thank each and every one of you for the struggle you are doing, for the effort you are making under very difficult conditions on all fronts. Be well and good strength.”
Mr. Androulakis spoke with the Commander Aristidis Katirtzidis and the members of the 2nd EMAK, noting that he will be a helper in their work. He then went to Thermi where he had a meeting with volunteers of the Civil Protection of the Municipality.
After his visit, Nikos Androulakis stated:
“I want to thank the 2nd EMAK very much, because with their competition both in Turkey and in Tempi, they show the standards we must follow. The standards of humanity and solidarity, of daily effort that ensure a better future for the Greek people. A future of security. Greek society must follow these standards.
Unfortunately, we experienced a tragic accident in Tempe, which shows that the state did not guarantee transportation safety. Which shows that there were projects that were not implemented on time but also lack of meritocracy, which led to a human error along with all this ineptitude of the state to the loss of too many human lives, especially young people.
The message is that the state must change and become a guarantor of a better life and a better perspective for the Greek people. With fewer inequalities, with more opportunities, with greater security, with a strong National Health System, with better education. And not a state which will be the spoils of the respective rulers.
A state – guarantor of the public interest. This is what we need and this is my concern and my effort in the face of the next national elections. Let this be the need that we must implement, so that the Greek people can live in better conditions in the future”.
Answering a journalist’s question for the “apology” of Kyriakos Mitsotakisbut as to whether PASOK also has a share of responsibility, Nikos Androulakis specifically noted:
“The easiest way for politicians to avoid taking on their responsibilities is to diffuse them into the distant past. The contract was made in 2014. So let’s stick to the facts and not the theories and the “apologies” after several days of the tragedy. And let’s have empathy. The contract was made in 2014. It envisaged, in two years, a project of 41 million to be completed, so that we have remote control of the first degree, when Europe is already going to the second degree of remote control. This project was not implemented in 2016. It was not even implemented in 2017. It took seven consecutive extensions under SYRIZA and New Democracy, as a result of which there is no remote control and in a modern mode of operation of the railways human error cannot be avoided and we mourn a tragedy”.
Asked for mass protest marches of young people, Mr. Androulakis said:
“Why do we see young children pouring into the streets? Did we give the money we needed to the National Health System to have better health? Did we give the money from the Recovery Fund to education, so that they have a better education? Did we give the money from the Recovery Fund to the greenest medium of our time which is the train, so that they have better and safer trains?
What has happened in recent years? That is why there is this outrage. For the injustice against the weakest Greeks. Injustices and indignation should not be instrumentalized by some, as they did in the past, but we should respond with solutions, with proposals, with a change of page that the place needs. With a state – and I say it again – the ruler will not be a tool of bribery, incompetence and impunity. But it will be a weapon that will defend the weakest Greek and guarantee a social contract of perspective, especially for the next generations.”
