Belgium’s highest court of appeal on Wednesday again rejected Eva Kaili’s appeal against the decision to pre-trial detention in the context of the Belgian authorities’ investigation into Qatargate.

According to the Belgian newspaper Le Soir, the Kaili side did not present any new arguments before the supreme court.

Eva Kaili was arrested on December 11 and has been in prison ever since for the corruption scandal that rocked the European Parliament. Mark Tarabella was arrested on February 10.

Eva Kaili’s partner, Francesco Giorgi, was also arrested for the case, but he has now been released with a bracelet.

On March 3, the Court of Appeal decided to extend their detention, confirming the earlier decision of the pre-trial panel, and Kaili and the Belgian MEP appealed against that decision.

According to the Belgian newspaper Le Soir, Eva Kaili had not invoked any additional arguments, while the defense of Marc Tarabella had raised four new ones, but in both cases the supreme annulment court said “no” to their request.
