The Minister of Environment and Energy, Kostas Skrekas, was asked today about the legislative initiative regarding off-plan building in Mykonos and made the following statement:

“I want to be absolutely clear. If in Greece some people think that they are above the law and that they are a separate part of the Territory, they are far out of their mind. In Mykonos the law will be applied.

Let everyone keep this in mind, the government’s message is absolute:

And the perpetrators of the criminal and mafia attacks against the archaeologist will be punished.

No illegal act, no illegal plan will be allowed to be legalized. I repeat, no extortion and no loopholes it’s not going to work.

Until the special urban planning is approved which will deal definitively with all matters, are suspended and no new planning permit will be issued for off-plan areas in Mykonos.

The state is not blackmailed and the control will be done by the Ministry’s central service”.

It is recalled that with the proposed regulation, the issuance of all building permits in the off-plan areas of the island of Mykonos is suspended, except for some exceptions, such as those for the repairs of legally existing buildings, within the legal boundaries and volume and until the approval of the relevant special urban plan.

The Department of Architecture, Building Regulations and Licensing of the Ministry of Environment and Energy is designated as the competent body for granting the above permits. In other words, the responsibility falls to the central service of the Ministry in Athens. The will of the Government is clear and will be implemented in a manner that leaves no room for misinterpretation, in or out of quotation marks.
