“There is no desire to privatize water”, repeated Minister PEnvironment & Energy K. Skrekas, at the start of the second day of discussion in the plenary session of the Parliament, of the bill for “Renaming the Energy Regulatory Authority to the Waste, Energy and Water Regulatory Authority and expanding its scope with responsibilities over water services and urban waste management”.

“The only ones who can to provide drinking water and irrigation water in the country is public municipal organizations and the Agency for Sanitary Improvements”, emphasized Mr. Skrekas, assuring that “water is and will remain a public good, at least as long as we are the government”.

At the start of the meetingthe SYRIZA member of parliament S. Famellos asked the minister to inform about changes he will bring to the bill, as it is not right to inform the plenary about the withdrawal of specific articles from a newspaper publication.

Answering by Mr. Skrekas he said that the legislative improvements would be brought to the attention of MPs well in advance of the end of the session, so that MPs could contribute to shaping the final draft.
