Regarding the strategy of the Ministry of Digital Governance, which was followed with the aim of the digital transition of the country, the Minister of Digital Governance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, spoke in the context of a discussion of the 25th conference of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Global Startup Workshop held on Friday, March 31 at Opera House.

The minister pointed out that the ministry’s priorities are to complete the project that has been started in the next four years. As he characteristically said, “the strategies were implemented to the extent they should be, I just need a little more time to see them being implemented to the extent they should be implemented in the next few years.”

He spoke of a successful project so far, which does not mean that it is complete. “It has not yet been completed, the goal is to complete our work in the next four years” characteristically said the minister, who, speaking about the new challenges posed by the ministry, mentioned the MITOS program, which evaluates services that reach 5,000 procedures. while he added that “the 4,000 services that are pending in the next four years must be digitized”.

He also noted that the investment of the “Fiber to the Home” program must be completed, as well as the digitization program for small and medium enterprises.

He referred to gov.gr, the pillar of citizen’s contact with the Government, where initially within 9 months they gathered from 501 services to over 1,500, while he underlined that it is designed to be available in the English language as well. He reiterated that the Greek State has tripled its services in four years with digital transactions reaching 1.2 billion this year, while he emphasized the innovation of the 5G competition and especially the way in which the auction was carried out, as regards to the “FAISTOS” fund using 25% of the auction money to invest in 5G applications. He added that the projects included in the Digital Transformation Bible should be implemented until 2025 and that practices were adopted from the example of Estonia, England, of Argentina, however, it was not completely copied, but adapted to the context of the country.

Finally, referring to data protection issues, he emphasized that “the European Union is a global power at regulatory level”.
