“Immigration will be a key point of confrontation for the May 21 elections. The government speaks with results, we reduced the flows by 80% and decongested our islands”, the Minister of Immigration and Asylum Notis Mitarakis told SKAI.

Speaking on the show “Kalimera” and Giorgos Autias, Mr. Mitarakis stated that “the fence is expanding and will expand its entire length” and emphasized the importance of good relations with the neighboring country. “It is good to maintain a good relationship with Turkey. On Tuesday, together with N. Panagiotopoulos, I will see Hulusi Akar and Suleiman Soilou, in the context of creating a bridge of cooperation with the neighbor,” he said.

“Our deterrence policy will continue, we will expand the fence, there will be European funding for the accompanying projects and surveillance projects. There is a provision of 100 million euros for an additional 80 km on the fence,” he added.

Referring to SYRIZA, Mr. Mitarakis pointed out that “they have systematically accused us of alleged pushbacks, against the coast guard and the police, against the heroes who fight daily on our sea and land borders to protect our country”.

“Immigration, especially for the islanders, is the main reason why people will vote for Kyriakos Mitsotakis on May 21st. During the last three years under Mitsotakis, many more people left our country than came. So, our country is not the main gateway to Europe. This year, only 5% of the arrivals in the entire EU passed through Greece”, underlined Mr. Mitarakis.
