The Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, met in the morning at Megaros Maximos with the President of the Eurogroup and Minister of Finance of Ireland, Paschal Donohoewho is visiting Greece to participate in the conference on the Greek economy entitled “Resilience, Progress, Prospect” organized by the Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras.

Mr. Donohoe congratulated Greece for the constructive participation of our country in the Eurogroup led by the Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras and the performance of the Greek economy in recent years while supporting social cohesion.

“Thank you very much for finding the time to come and talk about what we have achieved together in recent years,” the Prime Minister noted at the start of the meeting.

“It’s a great honor to be here and I’m really looking forward to the conference later to highlight the huge progress that has been made,” the Eurogroup president said.

“It is a great opportunity to summarize everything we have achieved and also to identify the challenges for the next period, because of course our work never stops”, pointed out Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

During the meeting, the stable economic performance of the country us with high growth rates and low inflationand they exchanged views on the economic situation in the eurozone and its prospects in the shadow of the crises created by pandemic and war in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister emphasized to Mr. Donohoe that the consistent pursuit of sustainable fiscal policies by EU member states should be combined with a renewed framework for economic governance at EU level. Greece is actively participating in the relevant consultations and wishes to reach an agreement within 2023.

The current financial instability in the international system and the extent to which the European financial system is affected were also discussed. Finally, there was a common understanding that progress on the completion of the Banking Union and the deepening of the Capital Markets Union are imperative to the achievement of the EU’s goals in terms of its international competitiveness, its open strategic autonomy, as well as the dual transition , green and digital.
