The minister underlined that Greece gained points in this four-year period, while regarding the defense diplomacy strategy he said that it resulted in the creation of a strong network of strategic agreements, tripartite and multilateral forms of cooperation and joint training, as well as dealing with new threats and challenges.

Regarding the definition of the Greece-US Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement, he pointed out the important role played by the Ministry of National Defense in its formation, with the result that the former head of the State Department, Mike Pompeo, gave credit to the ministry’s leadership.

Regarding the course of Greek-Turkish relations, he reiterated that the rapprochement is an opportunity and expressed the assessment that after the elections the procedures for starting the dialogue on Confidence Building Measures will probably be restarted.

For the upcoming elections, N. Panagiotopoulos explained that the result of the ballot box on May 21 will determine the next day and the outlook of the country.
