The SYRIZA MEP participated in a campaign against violence against women. What did it say about workplace abuse?
In the news here comes again the post he had made Alexis Georgoulis MEP of SYRIZA in November 2020 on the occasion of the complaint against him for sexual harassment and violence
Three years ago he shared a photo of himself and wrote the following message:
“Violence against women is one shameful violation of human rights. It makes no distinction between borders, cultures or wealth. The term “violence against women” includes any act of gender-based violence that results, or is likely to result, in physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or the arbitrary deprivation of liberty whether it arises in public or private life”.
These words were included in his post on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
What did it say about workplace abuse?
Do you know that…
1 in 3 women will at some point in her life experience physical, psychological or sexual violence from her partner.
1 in 5 women will be a victim of rape or attempted rape
40% to 50% of women in the European Union have reported some form of sexual harassment at work
An estimated 500,000 to 2,000,000 people worldwide, mostly women and children, are trafficked each year for sexual exploitation and forced labor.
