All the parties, but also the local community of Thessaloniki, to unequivocally condemn the threats against the rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which he characterized as “extreme fascist behaviors”, called the Minister of Citizen Protection Takis Theodorikakos, speaking today to t / σ of ANT-1.
At the same time, he sent a harsh message to the perpetrators of this threat, whom he called marginal, challenged them to “show their faces” and warned that “the ax of Justice will be very heavy”.
The minister described the situation at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki as nonsense and pseudo-occupation and stressed that “the Greek Police will assist wherever and whenever requested in the coming months, because the absolute priority is security at the universities.”
Specifically, regarding the evacuation operation at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the minister pointed out: “At the Aristotle University there was a situation that for 34 years created a functional problem in the education of our children. We put an end to this situation, we broke down this nonsense that some marginalized people had, who with a false occupation created a problem in the university. The rector and the academic community found support from the Greek Police to make it clear. Universities belong to the whole of Greek society. The average Greek family, the working middle class is fighting for their lives to help their children get into a university and no one has the right to close university rooms. “He has no right to prevent the rector from building a library open to students and teaching staff.”
Mr. Theodorikakos then spoke about the threats received by the rector: “I can not imagine that there is a political party in parliament that tolerates and does not condemn such provocative, extreme fascist behavior, which is against the freedom it has need the university and the security that is a prerequisite for this freedom for students, the rector and staff. It is the case of the local community of Thessaloniki, of the local self-government bodies, to unequivocally condemn these threats “, the minister stressed and added:” Let these marginal types come out of their burrows. Let each of them have the responsibility of his words and his signature, let them show us their face. Who are they. Know that the ax of Justice will be very heavy. We observe and will observe the law, let them also take care of their responsibilities “.
Asked about the issue of security in universities, the minister replied: “The government, the Ministry of Civil Protection and the Greek Police are doing what needs to be done to make the rector, teachers, students, children feel safe. us and the staff inside the university. This is the reality. We follow this policy. We strengthen our cooperation with all the universities of the country, we contribute to the implementation of the security plans that every rectory authority has to have at its university and we train the Protection Teams of University Institutions. The Greek Police will assist wherever and whenever requested in the coming months, because our absolute priority is security at the Universities “.
Mr. Theodorikakos also referred to the cases of coronavirus in the ranks of the Greek Police. According to data from the daily report, a total of 57,000 police officers are ill, 1,760 of whom only 25 police officers are being treated.
