“The Georgoulis case is of great concern to the European Parliament”, she stressed ND MEP Eliza Vosenberg speaking on the Thessaloniki radio station Status 107.7 and on the show of Dimitris Venieris, speaking at the same time about a tough and very serious case. He pointed out that this is a case that offends both our country and women.

Asked if she herself had heard anything about inappropriate or abusive behavior by her MEP colleague Alexis Georgoulis, Ms. Vosenberg underlined:

“In all honesty, we had heard some rumours, but which related to partner sexual harassment. Here it is a completely different thing. Complaints from partners who are harassed are filed with the Parliament’s services.

The case of alleged rape, and grievous bodily harm, was reported by one very serious in fact, a colleague of the Commission, a very serious girl, I know her personally, and educated to excellent standards, she is appreciated, she was not a colleague of Georgoulis, and who has now reported to the Justice.

He went to the Police Department, he went to the hospital, he has very important forensic findings for the acts he is reporting, it is a completely different case. We hadn’t heard of her.”

Regarding what has been heard about delays in the development of the case since the complaint was made, Mrs. Vosenberg noted that this does not surprise her, explaining that “beyond the fact that Brussels is generally late in these matters, do not forget that we are talking about an MEP, so the control becomes even more scrutinizing, because the waiver of immunitys, and don’t forget that two years passed with covid, where the services were understaffed, and the fact that it has been delayed is explained by the facts.”
