The President of PASOK-Movement of Change met in the morning with the national confederation of persons with disabilities
He had a meeting with the national confederation of people with disabilities on Friday morning President of PASOK-Movement for Change.
THE Nikos Androulakis presented a coherent set of interventions.
The position of Mr. Androulakis follows:
“Historically, PASOK, since its foundation, has given a lot of weight to the issues concerning the disabled movement.
Unfortunately, however, Greece has a lot of steps to take to reach the standards of Western European states in terms of the society of inclusion, services and support that our fellow citizens who belong to the disabled movement should have.
We prioritize every law, every decision of the state to incorporate the dimension of disability and always in consultation with the disability movement.
There must also be strong tax incentives, with a reduction in income tax for our fellow citizens who are more than 67% disabled and a new increase in disability benefits and disability pensions.
In our Program we place a great deal of emphasis on issues concerning disability pensions, the new EKAS and the abolition of the personal difference. These can be done tomorrow morning because the fiscal costs are low. I agree that the programs of the parties on all these social issues should be evaluated by the Parliamentary Budget Office, so that citizens, pensioners, disabled people, young people who have many problems can understand if all this can really be done. Or once again you will be led after the elections to a very big disappointment.
We propose special arrangements for the retirement of parents who care for people with severe disabilities, which were abolished by the third memorandum voted by SYRIZA.
The provision by the state of an assistant, a carer for all people with a disability of more than 67%, not a small part as is the case today.
The upgrading of special education, our schools are very far behind and without upgrading the structures of special education we cannot reach the education of inclusion, which is the only way to have equal access of people with disabilities to all levels of education.
The creation of public centers for chronic diseases for rehabilitation outside hospitals, for the equal access of people with disabilities at all levels,
Another issue on which we have priority is the greater subsidy of social cooperative enterprises in which people with disabilities will be active to a significant extent.
The universal provision of interpretation services to our fellow deaf people.
Controls in the institutions to protect the disabled people who live in them, from any form of abuse.
Unfortunately, our country has been irreparably exposed in this area. What has happened recently shows that the control mechanisms of the state are not working.
There should be multiple checks on these centers and very severe penalties.
The goal of PASOK in the new era is for Greece to become a normal European country.
The argument of whether they are financially sustainable has an answer to the moral question: It is not only how much you give, it is also where you give it and why you give it.
We have priority for the fiscal space to be given to the new generation, we have a duty to support people in order to have a society of inclusion and I am also talking about the disability movement, the elderly who live on hunger pensions.
In order to become a humane society, this fiscal space with serious social services and a fair tax system must support the people, who unfortunately the economic and energy crisis lead to the margins.
No matter how much the government beautifies the situation, it cannot change the real picture. The figures of the European organizations are unfortunately tragic. It is not possible today that 66% of the state’s revenues are indirect taxes and at the same time 120 listed companies in Greece will have quadrupled their profits in 2022, because they are profiting off the backs of the Greek people from price increases. Possibilities exist as long as there are human priorities.”
