Letter to the Political Secretariat of MeRA25 sent by Yanis Varoufakis one day after the elections pointing out that MeRA25’s fight has just begun. He mentions, among other things, that not only his party but the entire Left has suffered a heavy defeat, but he adds that “the timer has reset and the fight is starting again, giving us the opportunity to give it another go with a significantly different result this time”.

The letter in detail

“The election result of May 21st and the beautiful fight that just started for “MeRA25-Alliance for the Break”

Yes, it was a heavy defeat for MeRA25 but even heavier overall for the Left, for the movements, for the very principles of Humanism. However, the timer resets and the race restarts giving us the chance to give it another go with a significantly different result this time. It is in our hand.

Now is the Hour of the Most Crucial Battle in which we owe it to progressive voters, “Do you want this voice to be in the House?” adding, “It’s up to you!” “Everything can be different.”

As of this morning, we began regrouping our forces both electorally and organizationally with the aim of attracting thousands of voters who recognize the value of our voice in Parliament but who did not vote for us yesterday. Tomorrow evening, our Political Secretariat meets, which will be asked to approve the convening of the Central Electoral Committee of “MeRA25-Alliance for Breakup” as well as the Central Committee of MeRA25 which will approve the final composition of the ballots as well as the organization of our election campaign.

Let me close with a big, competitive thank you to each and every one of you for working so hard to spread hope to the citizens you reached out to.

Maybe a lot less people voted for us than we expected. But there are too many of those who regretted not voting for us and are ready to do so next time, in a few weeks, when the polls are set up again. It is up to you, up to us, to convince them to do so.

With the commitment that, as long as we breathe, we will not give up, and that in the upcoming polls everything can be different, I send you fellow travelers, from the bottom of my heart, greetings.”
