In the presence of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and the Interim Prime Minister Ioannis Sharma, the new, but short-lived, Parliament of the Greeks of the ITH Presiding Parliamentary Period, which resulted from the national elections of May 21, was sworn in this afternoon.

The convocation of the solemn opening session of the new Parliament of the Greeks will take place at 6 pm, with the First Vice-President of the Parliament Mr. Nikitas Kaklamanis presiding, assisted by the four temporary Secretaries who are the youngest MPs per party.

First, Mr. Kaklamanis will read the Agenda, he will record in the Minutes the names of the 300 elected MPs and he will inform the House of the letters that the political leaders have sent to the Bureau about which of the three parliamentary seats they were elected to, they chose to keep.

Right away, Mr. Kaklamanis will invite the temporary First Secretary of the Parliament to accompany the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Mr. Ieronymos and the members of the Holy Synod to the Plenary Hall to perform the established consecration.

Afterwards, Mr. Kaklamanis will invite the deputies who wish to stand up and in the presence of the Archbishop and his High Priestly retinue, to take the oath provided for by Article 59 of the Constitution, which is the following:

“I swear in the name of the Holy and Co-equal and Indivisible Trinity to be faithful to the Fatherland and the democratic state, to obey the Constitution and the laws and to conscientiously fulfill my duties.”

The Archbishop will complete the ceremony, sign the relevant Minutes and the temporary First Secretary of the Parliament will be called by the Presiding Officer to dismiss the High Priests from the Hall.

Afterwards, Mr. Kaklamanis will invite the Muslim MPs to swear in the Koran, while then the MPs who want to take a political oath will stand up.

The First Vice-President of the Parliament will close the solemn meeting, calling on the House to authorize the Bureau to ratify the Minutes, asking them tomorrow, Monday at 10.30 am, according to the Agenda, to come for the election of the President of the Parliament.

The MPs, before leaving, will go to a Parliament Hall that will be indicated to them in order to sign their swearing-in protocol and receive the relevant documents to complete their swearing-in process.

When the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou arrives at the building for the ceremonial swearing-in session of the Parliamentarians, she will be welcomed by the President of the Parliament Konstantinos Tasoulas and will initially lead her to the Office of the President of the Parliament until the meeting begins. The Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Mr. Ieronymos and his priestly retinue, respectively, will be welcomed to the building by the First Vice-President of the Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis.

The President of the Republic will watch the swearing-in of the “300” of the Parliament from the first row of the positions of the Plenary officials. Next to her and in the rest of the seats will sit those former Prime Ministers, former Presidents of the Hellenic Parliament, top judicial officials and State officials who wish to attend. In an additional row of seats, below the chairs of the officials, the representatives of foreign Churches and denominations will sit.

Acting Prime Minister Ioannis Sarmas and the members of the acting Government will watch the swearing-in of the Parliament from the ministerial seats.

Many ambassadors and diplomatic delegations of foreign countries have been invited and will attend the ceremonial swearing-in meeting of the deputies who will watch the swearing-in of the deputies from the diplomatic galleries.

Election of Speaker of the Parliament

On Monday, at 10.30 in the morning, the Parliament will meet for the “Election of the President of the Hellenic Parliament”.

The meeting will be chaired by the temporary First Vice-President of the Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis. Initially, he will announce the letters of the presidents of the parliamentary groups regarding the persons they propose for the new President of the Parliament, as the submission of a nomination by a candidate is not admissible.

The leader of the ND and president of the first party in parliamentary power Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in a letter to the Parliament, has announced that he nominates the current Speaker of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tassoulas, for the position.

The new President of the Parliament will be elected by roll call and is required to receive an absolute majority of the entire number of Deputies. If the 151 positive votes are not collected, the voting is repeated and elected with a relative majority.

Mr. Kaklamanis will announce the result of the vote and invite the audited Speaker of the House to occupy the chair.

Then on Monday and after a short break, the Plenary will reconvene in a meeting in order to carry out the election of the Vice-Presidents, Secretaries and Deans of the House by roll call.

The first three Vice-Presidents of the House will be elected by the ND parliamentary group, while the third, fourth and fifth Vice-Presidents will be elected respectively by the Opposition parties, so that there is proportional representation in the Bureau.

For the positions of the first three Vice-Presidents of the Parliament, the ND will propose the MPs Nikita Kaklamanis, Charalambos Athanasiou and Athanassios Bouras, who were also Vice-Presidents in the previous Parliament. SYRIZA MP Meropi Tsoufi. PASOK-KINAL again has Odysseus Konstantinopoulos, as has KKE MP Giorgos Lambroulis. The Hellenic Solution will nominate Konstantinos Chitas for the position of Vice President to whom he is entitled.

After the completion of the election of the Presidium of the Parliament, the new President of the Parliament will adjourn the meeting. An end to the meeting, which at the same time means the completion of the term of the first and only Session of the ITH Presiding Parliamentary Period.

The President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, will then issue the Presidential Decree dissolving the Parliament, will announce the national elections of June 25, 2023 and will set the day of swearing in the K’ Presiding Parliamentary Democracy. The Presidential Decree will be co-signed by the acting Prime Minister Ioannis Sarmas and the members of the acting Council of Ministers. The PD will be sent to the Hellenic Parliament in order to be sealed by the Parliament Guard.

Parliament of two days for the second time

Parliament of the Greeks with a term of “two” days, is the second time we have in the post-political annals. The previous time was the Parliament of May 2012, of the 14th Presiding Parliamentary Period, and since the previous elections, the possibility of forming a government had not arisen.
