The announcement of the office of the Prime Minister, Ioannis Sharma
According to a statement from the prime minister’s office, at yesterday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, the government policy of the caretaker government was determined, in accordance with article 81 par.1 and 2 of the Constitution.
In his introductory speech, Prime Minister Ioannis Sarmas pointed out that, due to the nature of the Government, government policy must be limited to the execution of the planned by the outgoing political Government and to the management of the risks identified in the field of competence of each Ministry.
Regarding the first object, the Prime Minister clarified that the execution of the planned must continue, but within the framework of the political neutrality of the Government without affecting the functionality of the State.
Regarding the second subject (risk management), the Prime Minister stated that this requires the identification of risks, the provision of a system to prevent or mitigate them and the monitoring of the effective implementation of this system.
This was followed by suggestions from all the members of the Council of Ministers, first of all the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State.
From the recommendations of the members, it was found that there are issues that must be resolved within the term of office of the caretaker Government, with the participation of several Ministers. In this regard, it was decided to hold immediate meetings with the participation of the competent Ministers under the coordination of the Deputy Prime Minister of the State.
It was also established the existence of risks that need to be addressed either because they may be verified during the tenure of the caretaker Government or because their verification may occur immediately after. Regarding this issue, it was decided that, under the supervision of the competent Minister, the necessary actions should be taken quickly to resolve the related problems, if necessary with the intervention of the Prime Minister or a new meeting of the Council of Ministers.
It was also clarified, with examples from specific cases, the limit of exercising the powers of the Ministers in view of the official nature of the Government, noting that no initiatives should be undertaken without prior information of the Prime Minister.
Finally, the level of representation of the country in European or international meetings during the tenure of the interim Government was decided.
