The government confirmed that approximately 80 migrants ended up on an island in the Greek part of the Evros, underlining that the Greek goal is to prevent any illegal entry of foreigners into the country, always with respect to international law.

In its announcement, the caretaker government points out that it has appealed to the Turkish government to coordinate border authorities and prevent illegal crossings.

“In recent days, the low water level of the river Evros favors the illegal crossing of migrants, using islets that fall on both Greek and Turkish territory. On such an islet, about eighty immigrants ended up in the Greek part.

“The Greek government has appealed to the Turkish government, which was sworn in yesterday, to coordinate the border authorities and prevent illegal crossings.”

An increase in immigration flows is observed at the borders of our country with Turkey, after the second round of elections in the neighbor which found Tayyip Erdogan the winner.

In Evros, the army and border guards have been put on alert as, according to information from SKAI correspondent Chr. Nikolaidis, there has been movement since yesterday.
