The National Health System, despite the difficulties, despite the weaknesses, works, emphasized the president of New Democracy
The president of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited in the morning the General Cancer – Oncology Hospital of Athens “Saint Savvas”.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis met and discussed with the medical and nursing staff participating in the new program “HOME” under the responsible physician, Michalis Nikolaou, for the administering treatments to oncology patients at home and informed about the operation of the new program.
It is noted that the standard “HOME” treatment program provides pharmaceutical support to cancer patients, without them having to leave the house, thus contributing to the improvement of their quality of life.
THE Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the meeting he said:
“I want to thank you for the great work you are doing. A leading public hospital committed to the battle of dealing with oncological cases. I am especially glad that the “HOME” program is starting with very important and high expectations. In simple words to explain it, the ability to provide care, hospital care, at home. Instead of the patient coming to the hospital, the doctor and nursing staff go to the home to administer an anti-cancer treatment. A program which is financed by the Recovery Fund and which in full development will be able to serve 80 incidents per day.
It is still an important incision, which is made in the National Health System and which shows us the way for the public health of the future that we want. We have never hidden the great difficulties of the National Health System and my absolute commitment to the new National Health System being a central political priority of the next government, as long as the Greek citizens trust us again.
However, I want, on the occasion of my visit to Agios Savvas, to demonstrate that the National Health System, despite the difficulties, despite the weaknesses, works. Many times it works at levels that are enviable both at European and global level. The provision of care that someone can have here, in Agios Savvas, I don’t think has anything to envy from large anti-cancer centers abroad and precisely these beacons of excellence within the National Health System are for us the pilot so that we can have corresponding quality of service provision throughout the NHS, regardless of where a patient will be.
So again I want to congratulate, not only the administration, but mainly the hospital staff, doctors, nurses, support staff, technological staff and for the fact that during the pandemic the hospital continued to operate and managed to he served all the pending matters he hadbecause of course the treatment of cancer cannot wait.
So today we are taking an important step in the direction we want and hopefully we will be here to be able to continue always innovating for the benefit of patients firstbecause through their own eyes we must always understand the experience of communicating with the National Health System”.
