“It is outrageous that SYRIZA is talking about excessive taxation, which, according to Mr. Tsakalotos, has bled and crushed the middle class,” said the New Democracy MP candidate
For her work New Republic as a government for the last 4 years and for the program of Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the next 4 years, the candidate spoke to Real Giannis Oikonomou.
More detail:
– From the beginning, Kyriakos Mitsotakis set the goal of self-reliance for the ND in the June 25 elections. However, if it is not achieved, due to the possible entry of more parties into the Parliament as the opinion polls show, which will raise the bar of self-reliance, will we go to third ballots?
“For years, Kyriakos Mitsotakis has explained to the Greek people why he believes in independent governments: because in Greece there is no political raw material for cooperative governments. In the elections of May 21, it was clearly seen that the Greek people embraced our arguments about the need for a strong autonomous government, especially at a historical moment when Greece is in a phase of rapid recovery and can now more than make up for all the weaknesses and setbacks of the memorandum period, with a direct impact on improving the wages and living standards of Greek citizens. The result of the elections led many SYRIZA officials to openly admit the failure of simple proportionality. We remain steadfast in our political agendas and our firm belief that the security of the Motherland and the progress of society are served by a strong self-reliant Government. We believe that the citizens will confirm their will on June 25, even more emphatically, and there will be no need to resort to third ballots. Citizens know both what and how.”
– SYRIZA and KINAL criticize the ND for the indirect taxes which, as they claim, were imposed in the previous four years, with the result that the income of the citizens is being eaten away. What do you say;
“SYRIZA and PASOK-KINAL, especially after the May 21 elections, are colluding on economic issues, which probably confirms what we have been saying for a while about their agreement on a hidden agenda of overtaxing the middle class. It is outrageous that SYRIZA is talking about overtaxation, which, according to Mr. Tsakalotos, bled and crushed the middle class. Also, in the pre-election period it became clear that SYRIZA is planning a new tax raid, which it has not canceled until today. On the other hand, PASOK indulges in recitals of economic incoherence and gradually downloads its program from its website, so that its plans for overtaxation are not revealed. Both of them, in the name of outdated socialist ideologies of the 20th century, want to kill the high growth rates of the Greek economy and put obstacles in small and medium entrepreneurship, which are flourishing, despite enormous international difficulties. The New Republic abolished 50 taxes and lifted a tax burden of 7 billion euros from the backs of Greeks. Anyone who wants even lower taxes and at the same time better wages votes for New Democracy.”
– Finally, the GLK can cost the pre-election programs of the parties? SYRIZA speaks of forgery regarding the document released by the ND before the May elections and concerning the costing of its program by the GLK. What do you answer?
“SYRIZA has to answer something very simple, without getting wasted in a battle of trenches, which aims to transfer the debate from the substance to the institutional level. Does he dispute that his program increases taxation and is a growth killer? We insist that SYRIZA, with this program, which they themselves do not agree on how much it costs, wants to deceive the citizens and hide its real intentions. Let Mr. Tsipras, finally, since he is bothered by the controversy, give a fully documented report on the costing of his program. On the contrary, he maintains creative ambiguity, which is a constant principle of his politics.”
-ND argues that reforming the National Social Security System is a priority for the next four years. Why didn’t you implement this plan earlier when the other parties are criticizing the deficiencies in the EKAB after the death of two of our fellow citizens in the last 24 hours?
“New Democracy’s positions on public health are described in detail in our program. The ND kept the NHS going through the pandemic and did a lot to improve its services. We are not yet where we want to be, especially in the countryside. We have admitted it and the Prime Minister has made the NHS one of the three main priorities of the next administration”.
– Are you concerned about Turkey’s moves in the Evros, especially after the information that the neighboring gendarmerie is pushing immigrants towards our country?
“Greece, since the Kyriakos Mitsotakis government took office in 2019, has shown everyone, including Turkey, that no one can play with immigration and the Greek borders. We have kept our borders intact in the great test of early 2020, brought order to migration by sea and relieved insular and bordering mainland Greece from migrant pressure. We also dismantled the Turkish propaganda, which was shamelessly adopted by many Greeks, through which they attempted to defame our Homeland abroad. Greece, with the fence and other measures, is strong and our borders are invulnerable. The guards have knowledge…”
– However, Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized that if elected prime minister he will seek to meet with Tayyip Erdogan at the NATO Summit in July. Is there room for negotiation?
“Greece, under the prime ministership of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, increased its international prestige, fortified its borders, upgraded its military power, concluded key alliances and changed the level geopolitically and geostrategically. From a different position now, from a position of power and self-confidence – in relation to 2019 – Greece, with absolute commitment to international law and international treaties, unyielding in what concerns its sovereign rights, chooses with its neighbors to promote stability and legitimacy in the wider area of its interests”.
