The political confrontation over the minority MP candidates of SYRIZA, Husein Zeibek in Xanthi and Ferhat Ozgiur in Rodopi, is being pushed to the extreme, following the complaint by Kyriakos Mitsotakis that Alexis Tsipras kept them on his party’s ballots, even though he had been informed by the EYP about the revisionist views on the existence of a Turkish minority expressed by the two of them and the support provided by the Turkish consulate in Komotini.
As it has already become clear, the ND is determined to keep stability in the region high on its agenda without “asterisks”, judging that it is a major national issue, since SYRIZA decided to keep its two specific candidates in the region, while dealing with the issue requires great sensitivity and seriousness.
Diagnosing the persistent efforts of the Turkish side to manipulate Greek citizens of Thrace, the goal of Piraeus is to put a brake on these external interventions in the Muslim community and on the attempt to intervene in the internal issues of our country with clarity and clear dividing lines.
The fact that Alexis Tsipras visited acting Prime Minister Ioannis Sharma in order to denounce the climate that has been created at the expense of the minority in recent days, added fuel to the fire of the political confrontation, causing a new “war of announcements” between Koumoundouros and Piraeus regarding the case .
The spark was rekindled yesterday by the complaint of the president of SYRIZA that “Mr. Mitsotakis does not hesitate to use the EYP as a tool in the pre-election struggle, in the pre-election confrontation this is unacceptable, miserable and nationally damaging. The Muslim minority in Thrace and especially the Turkish influence in the Muslim minority in Thrace cannot be dealt with either by targeting or by division”.
An attitude that was sharply criticized by the ND representative Akis Skertsos, accusing SYRIZ of playing with the institutions and stating that Mr. Tsipras “proceeded to a new political indecency, he chose to involve the caretaker prime minister in the political confrontation over Thrace. He is trying to to play with the institutions by resorting to communication fireworks, unfortunately SYRIZA functioned and functions as a national exception”.
A statement which in turn provoked the corresponding reaction of Koumoundourou with the party representative Popi Tsapanidou asserting that “The ND representative did not hesitate to call SYRIZA a “national exception”, resurrecting the divisive toxicity of the post-civil war years. Once again in recent Greek history, the Right sells nationalism while in practice it serves Turkish propaganda”.
And while the answers are still being sought for the provocative sms sent by the pseudo mufti of Xanthi, Mustafa Tramba, to the members of the Muslim minority in Rodopi and Xanthi, urging “The Turk votes for a Turk”, the continued silence of the two SYRIZA parliamentary candidates whose names concerned the controversial messages, but also the attacks that Dora Bakoyannis is still receiving on the occasion of her visit to the area.
“The statements of Ms. Bakoyannis, in front of the Muslim minority, this raw blackmail that if you don’t vote for us you will have a hard time, does not only concern the minority but that the blackmail should go to every house in every social group. Dress rehearsal for what will to follow” said Alexis Tsipras after his meeting with the interim prime minister.
Shots repelled by Akis Skertsos, recalling that Dora Bakoyannis remains president of the committee for the integration and integration of Thrace, emphasized that she has no democratic credentials to give to anyone and concluded by saying that the former minister of the ND “She said the obvious, that only any politician who serves the national strategy for the integration of the minority in the economic life of the country, can serve the interests of the citizens of Thrace. Those who adopt the most extreme views of revisionism, do not serve this purpose.”
Shots were fired against both ND and SYRIZA for their handling of the Rodopi case, with Nikos Androulakis underlining the criticality and “sensitiveness” of the issue by calling both his political opponents, Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Tsipras. to give clear explanations and stop the dangerous adventurism. There should not be a member of the Greek parliament who questions the Treaty of Lausanne, Christian or Muslim” said the president of PASOK – KINAL.
The KKE spoke of the dangerous games of all the first three parties, ND, SYRIZA, PASOK, with the Muslim minority of Thrace in its announcement, stressing that “minorities must form bridges of friendship and solidarity between peoples. This necessity is expressed by the KKE and its candidates from the Muslim minority of Thrace”.
The president of the Hellenic Solution, Kyriakos Velopoulos, was equally harsh towards both the ND and SYRIZA, accusing them of playing with the national issues and the integrity of Thrace, while the issue was also indirectly mentioned by the caretaker prime minister during the meeting ministrial Council.
“Freedom of expression, especially in pre-election periods, also covers expressions, it covers ideas, it also covers information, which may cause concern, even shock,” said Mr. Sharmas.
